It's horrible really considering almost everyone BUT those seeking work are allowed holidays! A friend of mine got married and as part of their wedding (which lol fell on a sign on day) everyone had a whip round to send them to Spain for a week. They lost both their job seekers allowance

    What's horrible about it?

JSA is paid to help look for work, why would they then pay it if you were abroad on holiday, obviously not looking for work?

Considering the occasion you would think it would be acceptable. More issues were caused however by them missing a sign on day to get married (Which they did inform job centre but thats another kettle of fish). Considering the internet you can job search anywhere in the world now so you can actively job search while out of the country

I've just skimmed this thread and most of the recent advice seems to be about leaving the UK for a holiday.

I am signing on and some friends have just offered my and my family their holiday home in Northumberland for a week, which happens to be my signing on week.

Now I will still have internet access and a mobile so will still be actively looking for work, it's jsut a great opportunity for a very cheap holiday and one which we were not expecting.

Can anyone confirm that as long as I am honest about this with the JCP I should be OK?

    Thanks.

Going on holiday for a week to Northumberland will be OK, just fill out a holiday form at the Jobcentre.

What is the situation if you have a property abroad in EEC and have already had telephone interviews in that country. Not a holiday really, I need to check on the house, pay the bills, flights regular and I will be looking for work in both countries for at least two weeks

I am claiming contributions based JSA and have been offered a chance to volunteer overseas. The (paid) jobs that I am applying for (i.e. the work I am qualified to do) are only advertised via specialist recruitment agencies who can contact me (via mobile) where ever I am in the world. There are daily flights back to the UK so, worst case scenario, I get called for an interview next day I could be back.

Will I have to sign off and the do a rapid reclaim. I would really prefer to avoid this - I do contract work so often sign off then on again (also if I go abroad on holiday), and have noticed that everytime this happens the JSP change my qualifying start date so I miss a few days benefit. I even did on-line application two days before my last contract finished and they still knocked 5 days off my entitlement. (Given the number of times it has happened, it's a scam to reduce the payouts or the JSP are incompetent)

Spag - I would also be interested to know the answer to your question. (In the same position)

Not always - if you are on contribution based JSA then, after six months, you get no cash benefit just your NI contributions paid for you to protect your pension / statutory sick pay entitlement.

I work bl**dy hard and can not afford a holiday this year due to hours cutting back, increased council tax and utilities prices.

IT MAKES ME FURIOUS TO SEE HOW MUCH SOME OF YOU SPONGERS GET AND MOAN THAT YOU ARE NOT GETTING PAID WHILST ON A JOLLY

JSA = job seekers allowance not costa del sol spending money

I just wish i didn't have to pay council tax, had my rent paid for and basically lived the life of luxury whilst entering competitions on line all day! (check the posts of the people who are receiving every benefit under the sun, all they do is comp!)

    Right rant over.

Back to work - those on this forum look it up in the dictionary :rotfl:

Dont blame the people, blame the system that makes it more beneficial to not work.

Excuse me but don't tar everyone with the same brush!! I get as annoyed as the next person at people who have absolutely no intention of working when they are perfectly able to do so. However, I don't think many (if any) of the posters on this thread come into that category.

I've worked for years but now find myself unemployed and claiming JSA (despite having a degree.)

I am going on holiday in a couple of weeks, which was booked and paid for before I lost my job. I am entitled to claim JSA (due to the NI contributions I have paid) so why should I not claim? And why should I not go on holiday? It might be my last one for some time!!
BTW I won't be claiming while I'm away!
