HM Beef stock or a good quality vegetarian alternative.

The soya mince will absorb the flavour of any stock/seasonings you use.

Personally, I prefer half and half - soya doesn't have a meaty "bite" so I like the texture of having real mince with it, this means that I haven't had any problems with using stocks to give it flavour.

Are you vegetarian or just using it for economy?

Worcester sauce is a great flavour giver - use it in loads of my sauces.

    Hi suzy,

This older thread might help you: TVP soya mince

I'll merge your thread with it later as it helps to keep the replies together.

as a veggie I just use normal stock or sauce as I would do if not using the mince. One thing to watch for is that soya mince absorbs a lot of liquid so whatever you are using make sure you use enough - add it slowly otherwise it will go to mush!!! Having said that it is straight forward to use, just remember it's not meat mince and so cooks differently, ie meat mince I brown off first before adding liquid, soya mince you don't need to!!!

Thanks for your replies, I bought it because my daughter is back living with us and she is vegetarian, I am coeliac and a lot of vegetarian meals I cannot eat, gluten in them. so as this mince does not contain gluten we can all eat it. plus it seems very economical, suzy

It certainly is economical suzy :D

Hope you enjoy it and have fun finding lots of different ways of using it.

Oooh, to the best of my knowledge, I'm sure as a coeliac you can use Bisto, not sure about it being vegetarian though, but that always seems to make a nice gravy for Shepards Pies and such. Should work well with soya mince - it does in my half and half blend.

They are very expensive in my view, although, can't you get some of the basics on prescription from your GP? Not a lot, I know, but, every little helps.

Our local Sainsbury's had quite a supply of Gluten Free prepacked goods on their reduced trolley the other week. I was going to buy up a load for a friend of mine who's a coeliac but sadly, there weren't "freezable" :(
