You have taken the first step on the road to sorting out your finances:T .
Sometimes it will be crap and sometimed it will be really fantastic like the day you ring up a cc and ask them to cancel your card.
Everyone on this thread has either been there or is there and will be here to help you through.
    (((hugs)))

    Hi Sporter

Have been lurking.....and glad to see you post again....as I too was getting worried.

This really IS a wonderful place to be...and can help lift you up...whatever your problems... be it debt or something completely different.

The care, concern and support of other posters on here...whatever their own personal circumstances... never ceases to amaze and uplift me.. and has certainly been a major factor in my recovery from the black pit I have been in for the last 4 months.

So please keep posting...even if you feel you have nothing useful to say apart from "I'm still here". When you feel you're ready, you'll maybe start to talk a bit...but in your own time. And we're a patient lot...we'll carry on being here for you...no matter how littel you feel you want to say at present.

    Much love

    Hi Sporter
Just to say we haven't forgotten you and would love to hear how you are doing.
  • Sporter - the great thing about this website is that just when you thought your credit rating was bad, there's always someone on here with worse ;) !!!

Put on a pot of tea, take a few deep breaths and go through your bank statements seeing what and when you spend. Having someone look at your situation objectively may be just the boost you need to propel you in the right direction.

We're not judgemental, just people who have made the same mistakes (sometimes bigger!) and are maybe a few steps further along the line than you are right now. For example, 2 years ago, I had over £30K of debt, and I now have £3,500. It's not easy, but it is possible so don't worry the support you have on here will 100% understanding as we've all done similar.

So, have a hug to start with!
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!

Hello. Your next step if you really have cut back to basics on your spending should be as follows:
    1) do an income & expenditure statement itemising everything you spend, e.g. rent, council tax, water rates, gas, electricity, phone etc.
    2) allow for magazines (minimum only each month)
    3) itemise any contracts for tv such as cable or sky that you are tied into for a definite period

Once you have done all this, write to the credit card companies explaining your current circumstances pointing out to them that their literature says to contact them straight away if you find you have more outgoings than incomings.

You should make a tentative offer of repayment of x amount per month (based on the income & expenditure sheet) and as a percentage of the overall debt and the 'disposable income' (e.g. total debt 10000 cc total 500 = 1/20th of disposable income)

Ask them to respond within a certain length of time & keep copies of all the letters you send to them.

Keep a note of times. dates and names if you contact/they contact you by phone.

This is useful if you have to argue.

Don't let it get you down. If you don't have the money they can't get it. You are doing th responsible thing by contacting them (making the first move) and making an offer to repay.

Keep you chin up and remember there is always light at the end of a dark tunnel.
If at first you don't succeed try, try, try again.
