Nice to see you back!
I think it is because they can then pass it onto the appropriate dept to make changes, however, if you put it in writing and state that you wish to make smaller payments because of X,Y and z then you will have a point of reference rather than confusing phone calls. Oh and state that you will be making that payment this month ..so you will not actually default on payment level.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

it saddens me to hear his story, having seen so many similar case on tv. i have no problem with money but my credit card bills were somewhat bloated, so, after having failed to keep my spending down I turned the clock back thirty years and now with my card safely where it can;t be used, all my spending is cash. by thus limiting my monthly spend to three hundred pounds for petrol and food, it s amazing how quickly this brings you back to the real world. whilst it may not pay off your large debts I believe it may coral them so they don't get bigger. once your daily expense are thus brought under control it may be easier then to focus on settling the debts. whilst I am not advocating bankruptcy or such it may be an option. I think the debt must be isolated from day to day finances. once these are under control a lot of worry may ease away. I think it is the fear factor that is the problem. also, when I get depressed, i turn on the television, one soon learns there is an awful lot of suffering out there. one final thing. I find being open and joyful with people however I may be inside helps you stop thinking about your own problems and try helping those around you instead. it is wonderful medicine. try solving someone else's problems and yours may not seem so big.0

Done the cash thing as well..... probably because they took all the cards off me,lol. We had one as a "safety net" and that was kept where I couldn't get it. Some say put it in a block of ice in the freezer because by the time it's thawed out you probably don't need ot spend on it but in my case it was locked away where I fear to tread.... no not hell but the wifes purse !!!
We are still not there but very tantalisingly near.

Thank you guys
My payments are due on 3rd, 4th and 7th and 21st of this month. I have just seen Martin's blog on 5.9% balance of life for MBNA.......but hey, card is used up to the max and it also states that this is for new customers only:mad:
I shall call them ALL by the end of the week and also write the letters as suggested.
Checked my credit reports...........Experian and Equifax............NO defaults whatsoever!:j Wish I didnt have to mess it up now and god only knows what I am going to do then this all takes place, especially when my mortgage comes round again next year. Anyway.......one day at a time.
Say for instance one of my minimum payments was £115 per month....how much do you think I should offer to pay (being that I am TOTALLY broke). What is the LOWEST I could offer without them getting too mad at me?
Any advice welcomed

If you are on the bottom then send a letter to the companies and say that you are having difficulties meeting your minimum repayments and will only be able to make a minimum contribution of either £1 or £5 per month. Also say that you would humbly like to request that they stop all intrest / payment protection / charges etc ( delete as need be.) for the forseable future to enable you to begin to work out your finances.
They will probably send you a letter or even phone you up and say that they require a financial statement from you. MBNA are swines and will not remove intrest until they get this although they do fill in a form for you over the phone if you want.
I done this and now i'm getting there after 3 years. Others may have other advice but this is what i did.0 -
