hi sporta
i was in the same position 2yrs ago.
only way out is to agree redured payments with all creditors.
going through a goverment agency is better as creditors more
likely to agree. this will have an effect on credit rating but better
that than lying awake at night worrying what to do.
hope you feeling a bit better now
just remember theres always someone out there
worse off than you, like me our debt started at £53000
its now £50000 and we've paid over £5000.
marriage is strong, kids are healthy and we are trying to stay possitive.
not always possible i get more upset than hubby just take it one day at a time. work to budget. only problem with payplan is they don't include house
repairs or break-down of washers etc in budget.
good luck
luv

Will be BT money over today........:j
Lets see what happens now0 -
Thanks Wol2.
Just read MSE again as you suggested. :money:
Being that my debt is soooo high, obviously this will mean me applying for more than one cc to do the BT?
Should I check my credit rating before I do anything?
Sporter
Hi Sporter
Sorry for not replying sooner.....been away on 3 days residential training course with no internet access!
It might be worth trying for one card with a large balance....if you can get it. As for checking your credit rating.....all you can do is ay the £2.00 to each of the agencies to see what debts/cc's etc are on your file (again MSE gives details on how to do this) ...it won't actually give you a rating as each lender seems to have their own scoring system.
Have sent you an email in response to your PM.....
Speak later

keep posting here, everything small thing you do, that saves you money that means you are a little closer to being out of it all.
I know its hard, I have said it before on here, but when I first thought holy cack I had best fix this I sorted out my bank, made my payments etc... and then thats it. the debt doesn't seem to go down you still worry just as much and feels a lot like wading through mud in a rainstorm.
that is why it is absolutely neccessary we all post here and get things in to perspective. we didn't get in this mess over night and it will take a long time for stuff to change. But it will change. we are doing the right thing.
start a diary on here and post how you are and what you are doing(for heavens sake I killed a thread the other night wittering on about my pets!) honestly it helps.
please don't think you are alone, you are not. we are here.
Pm me if you like (((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))))))

Hi Sporter - just had a catch-up reading your thread. Seems like you are getting loads of advice about what to do - and don't know what you have had in your private messages but am sure that they will be helpful too.
As a non-finanially wizard person - it seems to me that looking at EVERTHING together makes the mountain seem to high to climb. I found that looking at the snowballing info helped me the most when I first began (January this year) to feel more positive about the seemingly small action I could take to pay off my debts. Deciding to pay off one debt at a time (either the smallest amount or the highest interest - whichever is most appealing to you) has really given me back hope = hope that I will, eventually, be clear of debt - by chipping away methodically at my debts.
Any shifting of accounts and BTs can be done along the way for sure, but I found that making a decision about which debt I was going to work on first was a really helpul move.
Even so, the journey is not easy - and if you read my thread you will see that I have been regularly disheartened and thought "what's the point?". Having a diary thread means that I can check in on myself and also get other people's support along the way.
It is depressing being in debt - no doubt about that. But it is also tremendously heartening to be a part of the dfw community - because everyone is in a similar position - and we can all learn and encourage each other.
You can be debt-free. We all can. We just need to keep in touch with each other and keep each other on the right path. I nearly got a consolidation loan - the bank made it sound very attractive - but fortunately I had read all the info on mse which showed me what a dangerous route that was to take! I have not consolidated my debts - I did manage to get another card (albeit for only £1400) and I did have to rack up more debt because I had to move house - but my snowballing plan is still in place - so I know I am still moving towards being debt-free even if it seems like a long, long road! I increased my monthly payments to the credit card I have chosen to pay off first - making it twice the minimum payment - which is really making a difference.Debt free by 22 January 2009 - thanks to an unexpected inheritance - take heart - it DOES HAPPEN!0
