Changes To StayWarm

Staywarm - Poor value - 22% saving by leaving Staywarm
We left Staywarm on October 1st 2009 - e-on announced that our £75pm ( October 2008 - October 2009 ) was going up on October 1st 2009 to £84pm. So, we switched to an edf Online Dual Fuel Tariff.
We now have exact full year usage and costs for comparison. Our usage profile hasn't changed, we are boringly the same in energy usage each day, week, month... The only real change was that the last winter was exceptionally bad, so, our latest costs should be higher!
To cut a long story short:-
Oct 08 - Sep 09 Staywarm - £900
( 12 x £75 )
Oct 09 - Sep 10 edf - £699.33
( Elec - 3636 kWh = £302.27 and Gas :- 11118 kWh = £397.06 )
Saving of £900 - £699.33 = £200.67 ( 22% )
Obviously, do the maths for your own circumstances. For us, the "peace of mind" fixed price feature wasn't worth £200!

Like mine, your electricity consumption is considered high.
I jumped ship and went to their online saver 3, with an estimated £288 saving.
Try the comparison sites, as area can affect charges.0 -

Hi stevenpc
I'm afraid properties with Prepayment Meters are no longer eligible for our Staywarm tariff. This change came about in June 2009.
Staywarm is a specifically designed tariff for domestic residential customers aged 60 and over. The other qualifying requirements are as follows.
It is a dual fuel tariff (unless there is no mains gas at the property); the property must have no more than 3 bedrooms; a maximum of 4 occupants should live there; payment needs to be by Monthly Direct Debit; and there should be no non domestic appliances in use like swimming pools or Jacuzzis.
Usage is normally calculated based on meter readings at the property. However, where customers have only recently moved in, the calculation will be estimated using details of the actual property like number of rooms, number of radiators, type of heating etc.
Sorry I can't give you any more positive info stevenpc but hope this at least clarifies our Staywarm tariff. Give me a shout if I can help further as will be glad to do so.

I am a newcomer to the site. I am with Staywarm and have been for quite a long time. Leaving them once, but returning after a year. I have had phone call saying they are offering boiler and central heating cover for £3 a month, I find this very hard to believe without some catch or other! Has anyone else had the same offer? I wonder if Malc could put my mind at rest and confirm it is a genuine offer? Thanks in advance.0

Hi marlynda
This is genuine. However, it's the most basic level of central heating cover we offer and has limited availability.
It is only open to customers who already have cover with us but whose policy is about to expire and are looking to downgrade to a lesser/cheaper product.
Whilst it gives access to our Gas Safe engineers 24/7 all year round, there are various additional costs depending on the type of work/callout involved.
For example, each call out will cost an additional £100.
Hope this eases your concerns marlynda. Give me a shout if I can help further as will be happy to do so.
