Looks like trying to give advice to me.willy_wonka88 wrote: »Just buy less takaways and drink less booze...you'll easily afford the penny more then!!! As well as the extra couple of quid for a decent chicken...

Just a word to wise to everyone on this one..if you have a local farm shop/farmers market ...try buying organic from these places as I have found the quality to be far higher than the supermarket..as well as not containing the supermarkets large margins. (I've also bought supermarket organic/free range chickens...with very little taste difference - however most of the time it is a LOT less watery and you get more meat off the bird!!)
I agree horses for courses and all that.....I just wished more people bought with a conscience..the supermarkets are wise-ing up to it - but they really need a kick up the bum like they did with eggs. (which is why i mentioned it previously)
I'm off.......obviously rubbing people up the wrong way.....
They can eat as many £1.25 ready meals and £1.99 chickens as they want...i'm not that's for sure!0 -

Not really surprising, using the inflammatory language that you used.
Indeed, we can eat what we choose, ,and you can eat what you choose, I promise not to impose my views upon you.
:rolleyes:0 -
Don't worry about it, I think it's shocking that they can sell 'meals' for this price and am saddened when I see families stocking up on these but I suppose that is there personal choice and they have a right to it but I don't think they can be very nutritional for their children who don't have a real choice.
Can I ask why you made the choice to go free range?
Just wondering if it is because of the taste as I personally have tried it and didn't see a noticeable difference in the taste.
It was the Kids! My eldest is a bit of an "Eco warrior".... Plus I started to worry about genetic engineering.
I notice a much better flavour with the eggs ( and oddly enough cooking results are better with F/R ...cakes lighter etc)
Chicken....I've noticed no difference with the chicken itself flavour wise , however it makes much better stock.
It's taken me about 4 years to get to this stage.
I never buy organic beef mince though ( way too fatty)
I really wish I could find a good butcher though.
My next goal is to steer away from supermarkets altogether and just use local producers ( hopefully in the next few years)"Every time you feel yourself getting pulled into someone else's nonsense, tell yourself: Not my circus, not my monkeys." - Mark Borkowski.

You might have had valid points but your method of putting them across detracts from the point of the post, nothing wrong with difference of opinions and heated debates but there is no need to sink to childish behaviour like personal insults, by behaving like this it comes across like you are struggling for valid points and losing an argument.0

Callling someone an idiot is "inflammatory language". Oh how i laughed !!!!!!
Calling somebody names automatically invalidates any good points I made.
Nice one :rotfl:
You both sound like schoolteachers now!! :j0 -
Oddly enough, when I did my weekly shop at Tesco, they had sold out of all F/R and organic chicken."Every time you feel yourself getting pulled into someone else's nonsense, tell yourself: Not my circus, not my monkeys." - Mark Borkowski.

every time i go they have as well (either they are not stocking enough or people are starting to care about what they eat - both i think!) .....hence the route to the local farm shop/farmers market. It's unfortunate not all places in the country have one within easy travelling distance.
It's an even bigger shame that all the local butchers seem to be going out of business...0 -
I know what you mean about the butchers , we used to have 2 in our town, now we have none

there are some really good websites dedicated to local or organic produce, so its fairly easy to find local suppliers if you have the time/inclination. Most people do a one-stop-shop (due to family/time constraints), so they buy what's available. That's why the supermarkets need to make the changes.....0
