Used all comparison sites to get cheapest car insurance in April. Cheapest found was The Post Office to insure 2002 Focus for 188 GBP with the promise of 50 cashback which would make renewal for fully comp 138GBP but cashback not materialised yet. This is despite calls to chase and being told they 'will look into it'. Has anyone had their money back on this offer?0

I have heard that the cheapest cars and car insurance could be found in Slovakia and The Czech Republic. They make a lot of cars and they want to sell them to every EU citizens, hence the low price. You can save thousands of pounds when buying them from car makers (VW, Audi,Skoda = VW without the price of the VW brand) own outlets in these countries. You can save even more cash on insurances every year because they do not charge most of the typical EU car taxes, they just don't
. Insurances were designed for the cheap Eastern European road system so they have a very low price. You just need to drive your new car back to the UK ( takes less than one day ). Even the Germans buy their cars there :money: !!! The same insurance policy stands for all makes.
You just need to contact any car dealer there ( google them).
Don't you have to re-register them in the UK (and pay our rip off taxes) within 6 months? - my source of information was a fellow citizen of the EU over here from Poland.0 -
My wife called the Post Office Insurance to renew, not much more than AA so less hassle to remain with the Post Office, and informed them of our change of address.
They wanted extra for the new postcode and £16 for a documentation charge. That works out at about a pound a day as that's about what's left on the existing policy. Do other car insurance companies make a similar charge?

I just felt I should come on here and say thanks. A bit of shopping round one night last week fuelled by Martins article resulted in a quote of £436 from Tesco for fully comp insurance being replaced by one from Churchill for £320 for an equivalent policy. Then the power of Quidco got me another £100 pounds.
So thanks MSE, I just saved ~£215 pounds, approximately 50% off my renewal - very pleased indeed0 -
Hiya everyone!
just got a query on car insurance, Just bought a smart roadster coupe, thought smart carss were cheap to run! but my insurance says differant! my best quote up to now has been £753 by admiral, there's a few thing going against me though..... 1.I havent passed my test yet....2. I'm insuring my parten as 1st name driver and me as 2nd.....3. my parten has been driving for over 15 years hasnt been in a accident for about 8yrs ....4.parter has only been a second name driver on AA ins for the past 4yrs....5. I live in a quite area and the car will be kept on the drive and only est about 7000 a year ( my friend nxt door has same car)
even when I've only put my partner down on the quote I dont seam to get a much better price!
Can anyone help me get a better quote ? or is this the best I'm gonna get? any hints or tips, its all looking a bit glum with that kinda quote.

My car cost £0 and the insurance £700 as I live in a crap area. The value of the car has little to do with insurance really, appart from the risk element of powerful cars. All you can do is follow martin's guidelines and look for the cheapest quote.
As your son is 20 most insurers will automatically slap on a non-voluntary young/inexperienced driver excess.
I found the cheapest insurance for me at 26 new driver in a bad area near a major city came in at £100 less than anything confused.com had to offer. When tesco were unwilling to quote online I gave up on them. The company I used was ecar insurance. For £20 off a quote see my post here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=495433 so if they work out cheapest an extra £20 off will be welcome I'm sure.
As I say in that thread I recommend checking other levels of cover as for me TPFT was cheaper then TP only and fully comp was cheaper still but only with the highest possible excess, and as my car cost me £0 I went TPFT.
Good luck with finding a cheaper quote0 -
Used all comparison sites to get cheapest car insurance yesterday
My Admiral renewal was £740
The cheapest the comparison sites could offer was £720 with the average being around 1K.
So posted on the Forum for my make of Car and was reccomended A Line, who quoted £539 !!!!! pretty good for a 2L Turbo with only 1 yr NCB, I did ring Admiral back to see if they could match/beat the price, but the bloke just stuttered and said I should just cancel.
So before committing to one of the big names, do a quick search to see if there is a forum for your car and ask the question esp if you have a performance car.0
