Ritchie840, before you commit make sure you try third party fire theft if you only tried third party only. It may be cheaper0

yeh i noticed that...why is it exactly? surely they are covering you for more things so it should cost more? :S0

Fully comp may be cheaper yet, but the only problem is you would probably need the £500 voluntary excess to make it cheaper. Added to any applicable compulsory excesses that's quite a bit of money lost if you need to make a substantial claim. I personally decided against it due to the low value of my car. But note you do get windscreen cover and roadside recovery with home assistance included in fully comp. I guess it's just a case of weighing up the pros and cons of each based on the value of your car and what would happen in terms of a claim if an uninsured driver smashed your car up and you got a £1600 repair bill, or you had the car stolen.
It's funny how all these adverts on TV go on about "cheaper" car insurance, and the one that, at least for me, was cheapest was one I have only heard of online0 -

Just got a renewal from Direct Line £383.50, I then followed the 4 step plan and have got quotes from £190 upwards, so phoned Direct Line to haggle and the chap would not entertain any reductions other than to remove the legal and rescue cover!! We have two cars insured with them and have found them reasonable in the past, but they have now lost our business.0

Howdy all,
Took out a policy with Barclays car insurance on the 28th Feb 2007 (wed)to start 1st March 2007(Thurs) as they were the cheapest for me at that time.We played about with the prices and excess etc to find a quote going backwards and forwards. We saved one or two quotes on their system. When we did the required quote we did it from scratch sometime later. My partner and I BOTH checked the screen details and confirmed the details and paid by cc straight away. We printed off the quote and payments docs etc, but didn't look at them as we Both checked the details on the screen and made sure we had the correct cover. We have received the certificate and docs in the post this AM and guess what, the cover had been changed, we had wanted sdp & commuting but got sdp. I rang Barclays as they don't have online response services. I was given a hard time by the customer services lady and could get no where fast as they were insisting it was OUR mistake and would change the docs which included the price difference by phone of £17. the difference on the net was only £5 (checked before I called). OR i could cancel for a much higher cancellation charge. We are 110% sure we put in the correct details and somehow the online service had a glitch or reset that particular menu to the first on the list AFTER confirming everything. I said from the start I would pay the £5 difference which was online, I asked to speak to a supervisor, and after getting the same information repeated back to me over and over and asking for some common sense in the situation. He said he had checked with IT and tried to make out once again we had made a mistake(but in a polite way).I persisted and mentioned this site and that Martin had mentioned them in the car insurance section. After admitting no liability but as a good will gesture he said he would do the new docs at the price difference of the £5.
I see where they get there record profits from now.!!!!! Could this be the way they are getting their £50 back from customers????
Nice try Barclays but thanks for having some common sense in the end0 -
Would just like to say thanks. New moneysaver and received both money saving books as a gift. Renewed car insurance for myself and husband. Have been with Direct Line for 6 years, we are now with Peoples Choice and Direct Dial respective. Used confused.com and have saved £210. Excess is still £150, protected NCB, courtesy car provided. Really happy Thanks,0
