  • Hi My son age 17 is about to take his test, and as soon as he has passed he wants to buy a car. So we will look for a decentish car (£1,500) but I would like to know the cost of insurance before we buy. The insurance companies I have contacted only seem to be able to give me a quote once I know the full details of the car:(

    Any advice?

    Thanks chorusineminor
  • Hi
I have posted this on another MSE forum about cutting the cost of learning to drive, so forgive me if I'm not supposed too!
My daughter is 17 next month and obviously on a provisional licence, she has bought a Corsa 1.4 and to insure it in her name and with myself and her Dad as named drivers (it got cheaper as each of us were added) I found Admiral the cheapest. For Third Party Fire & Theft with £150 excess and legal protection included they quoted £602, this is for a 10 month accelerated policy i.e. at the end of 10 months she will have 1 years no claims and they will confirm this if we wish to change to another company. We thought this might be a good idea as by then, hopefully, she will have passed her test and have the benefit of 1 years no claims so it SHOULD bring her premium down a little quicker!? I also tried Best Advice, as written about in previous messages, and they quoted £677 TPF&T £100 excess except this was for 1 year (not accelerated) this also included their fee.
I hope this is of help as insurance for new/young drivers can be horrendous! Not that I think £600+ is cheap! but it's the best I've found so far!
  • I am looking for commercail car insurance for fast food delivery...I have used the confused option, and have found it to be very time consuming and a thorough waste of time, i was given a list of providers, yet when i called to take up the insurance advised that they do not cover food delivery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, my insurance expires tomorrow, I am gratefull for any advise or direction on this, ideally would like comprehensive cover for any driver over 25 for this purpose but am finding many companies no longer offer the any driver offer......any suggestions much appreciated. Alternatively I want a company that allows me to add 3 or 4 at least additional drivers. Any tips for FAST FOOD please please help! Do not want to spend any more time making calls and searching the net unsuccessfully....who are other fast food outlets using and finding competitive and insuring any driver???????????????????????????

    Hi carol,

I recommend trying https://www.ecarinsurance.co.uk I just got insured for a year for £700 TPFT on a Skoda Favorit 1.3 GLXIe estate (let the jokes commence) and I am 26 and only recently passed, and live near a major city in possibly a high crime area. It seems they are quite good for young inexperienced drivers - note that TPFT and Comprehensive quotes can be cheaper than TP only (weirdly enough) so try all options but answer all questions truthfully for obvious reasons. The system refused me insurance when the car would have been registered in another person's name so I think insurance can only be in your name if you are the registered owner of the vehicle :) good luck on getting a cheaper quote.

I was tempted by ecar's NCB accelerator monthly insurance but as I undertstand it other insurers may not accept the NCB as there has not been a total of 1 years driving for the NCB. I could be wrong however but this would seem an obvious way to fix you in with an expensive insurance provider who hikes up the quote under the premise you are getting a NCB discount, but you can't take the NCB elsewhere.

Use online quoting systems and look at autotrader for possible cars, keep returning to the quote and changing the car to see what effect changing only the car has on insurance costs. Good luck!

    Have you tried Tradex.

They're mainly motor trade but they do the unusual stuff so might be worth asking.

I was considering going with More Th>n via Quidco on renewal this January. I have used Quidco for some time now and recommend it. I mentioned the incentive to my current insurer and they matched Quidco's £40. Worth considering.
This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!
