Above are a comparison site for car insurance quotes via an 0800 number and entirely independent of any broker or insurer.

You ring 0800 085 1898 and speak to intelligent humans in the UK to give your details. They ring back c 30 mins later with their best price. If it beats all your other quotes then all you do is pay £14.99 and they will arrange it for you.

They found me an extremely good deal so I reckon they will be worth expending £14.99 to save lots of further hunting via websites etc.

I checked and they are FSA registered so all in order on that score and I have no connection with them except as a likely new customer.

I want to second this advice - I used them yesterday and got some handy help from them. They're based in Stoke-on-Trent; geographical number is 01782 838404. Searching in the FSA Register, I found them listed as a 4-man company with firm reference number 314751 (you can check online at the FSA website yourself). Friendly people...they tell me that they should have a website up and running in about a couple of months' time.

They also seem to be affiliated to the publication called "The Matthews Guide to Motor Insurance" (ISBN 0955333806), which is written by one of their members and apparently is available in W H Smith (see this SAYNOTO0870.COM thread).

My opinion is that they're certainly worth recommending to someone as a one-stop shop or for someone who doesn't want to trawl through confused.com etc and then check all the omitted providers and their intermediaries. They basically run through Martin's first three steps of the cost-cutting system, though I suppose they won't address possible gains from cashback sites such as Quidco etc.

I'm also a member of The Money Club in Datchet, and I used them too, but didn't find them to be quite as resourceful. Thumbs up to Best Advice from me then!

I wnet through the confused and moneysupermarket routes and shaved over £100 off my premium - from about £320 to about £215. This might because we have moved house etc, now have a garage, etc and followed some other MSE tips, but interestingly, our renewal note from the AA quoted us about £320 and said they had checked loads of insurers and this was the best quote available - so obviously still worth triple-checking.

Sorry for the breathless long sentence!

Decided to change to a diesel car as doing 80 miles a day. Found a nice 3 years old Rover 45 and decided to go and search both confused.com and moneysupermarket.

Post Office with their £50 payback were the cheapest at £295 (I have one traffic light endorsement but no points) not bad for a group 9 car.

The insurer is Fortis which is the same as my current policy but much cheaper via Post Office.

The only fly in the ointment is the cancellation fee on the old policy which is over £140 as it is only 2 month old policy.

I thought Martin said in his original article that most companies will refund the premiums if you didn't claim, the broker Choice-Direct never heard of that apparently.

  • I prefer prudential car insurance and take it via ebuyandsave.co.uk and save a cool £50 via cashback. Prudential turns out cheapest for me.
Another hint.. do add an additional driver, you will save atleast £50. I tried it with most insurers, the cost comes down..unlike what i would have imagined.

I've been with More Th>n for 3 years now, due for renewal again at the beginning of April, and have the maximum no claims bonus for life.

My first year cost £136.50 (2004). I joined them specifically because my son said he got more help from them, when they were the other driver's insurers, than he did from his own! At that time, I wasn't shopping around - more money than sense, evidently. This was for fully comp, + legal assistance on a 1993 Peugeot 106, with £200 excess.

I've had only one insurance claim in 39 years of driving, no points or convictions of any kind, and no - I'm not a tortoise

In 2005, More Th>n wanted £178.50 to renew my policy - no change to my car, circumstances, or drivers.

In 2006 they wanted £180.11 - still no changes to circumstances.

I used confused.com, which worked wonderfully well, and gave me lots of quotes - among them More Th>n for less than I have ever payed - £134.71, with £250 excess, Legal cover (£17.58) and it says also FREE breakdown cover is included automatically - it never has been before. And I don't need it, as I use my Tesco points to get RAC cover in Club Deals.

If I go with them as a new customer to reduce the cost, do I lose the Maximum no claims bonus for life?

They have all 0800 numbers when you want to talk to them, I should probably call them up and ask :o

Confused.com gave me the cheapest quote as Budget / Groupama - at £89.01 plus legal protection at £24.99 - £114.00 in total, with no claims bonus protected, and £150 excess.

Insure supermarket doesn't work for me at all - it apologises but says there's a compatibility issue and "This channel is currently not compatible with your system or current web browser version." I use Firefox and Linux.

Sorry for this long and boring post - if nothing else, it's helped to sort out the facts in my head! I think I might try another quote with confused.com, as on my schedule More Th>n have my yearly mileage as 8,000, and when I checked it on my MOTs, I'm only doing 5,000 tops, so I used that for the quote.

The Post Office came in at 157.00 also for Groupama - but I could get £50 pound back from them making it £107 for £100 excess, protected no claims bonus, and legal cover. How long does the £50 rebate go on for, does anyone know?

I've been doing this for about 12 hours now, I think my brains are fried, and I should go and lie down in a darkened room.

12 hours at the min wage equals more than you have saved. There has to be a point where further searching is just wasting time.

I have done a lot of searching, it could be poor searching, but has been done.

In March I will be going for a new car with multi mode transmission, I think these cars are classed as an automatic...does anyone know if a premium will be higher because of this?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi

I followed your steps and got a £150 reduction from my renewal quote (A.A. insurance) with Swiftsure.com PLUS I get £50 cashback in 90 days. Great stuff! Just one slight worry - the online screen insists my car has manufacturers security device fitted as standard. It may have had once but when I bought it it didnt. As the policy is offered on the basis of the device fitted I rang Swiftsure who assured me this is ok. BUT ....I havent got this in writing so might I run into trouble if I have a claim? Has anyone else had this problem when getting quotes?
