I followed your steps and got a £150 reduction from my renewal quote (A.A. insurance) with Swiftsure.com PLUS I get £50 cashback in 90 days. Great stuff! Just one slight worry - the online screen insists my car has manufacturers security device fitted as standard. It may have had once but when I bought it it didnt. As the policy is offered on the basis of the device fitted I rang Swiftsure who assured me this is ok. BUT ....I havent got this in writing so might I run into trouble if I have a claim? Has anyone else had this problem when getting quotes?

Most cars now come with a Thatcham approved immobiliser.

Is anyone else out there as annoyed as me? They say non fault claims shouldn't make any difference. I have just had my renewal from Tesco - very good I have to say but I am trying to better it yet a lot of insurance companies either wont touch me or I get a high quote. In the last 3 years I've had 1 windscreen damage, 3 non fault minor accidents and 1 malicious damage (this would be the only at fault one). With confused.com most wont quote me and I have just called Esure who have proved my point - they see me as high risk.... it's not me that's high risk it's all the people that keep crashing into me that are high risk yet I'm I'm having to pay for it one way or another.....!!!0

Hi,
my insurance was due for renewal and unfortunately I had another three points added to my licence recently, this pushed the premiums up another £500, I spoke to my insurance company whom I had been with for about 7 years but they wouldn't budge. (Churchill) I used the steps you suggested and got the premiums back to just under the £400 pound mark. There were a few details to fill in and a couple of phone calls but to save £500 was definately worth it. I get the same benefits as I did before with my new company.
Thanks for the advice0 -
I noticed in the email, someone has got insurance for less than £50?!
Last year i payed £63 a MONTH!!!
This year its dropped down to £37 due to no claims.
Oh I cant wait to be old!

I use Tesco for both my home/building and car insurances to get additional points.
When i got my car insurance renewal notice last year it had gone up by quite a jump!! I decided to go on-line and do the usual comparisons. I found that other comapnies were similar prices and it was not really worth my time to change providers, plus I would lose my additional Tesco clubcard points earned.
However, when i re entered my details into a new quote from Tesco it was £50 cheaper for the exact same policy (infact i think the excesses are even better (lower))
So i decided to call them up and ask if I could cancel my existing policy and take out a new policy with them on-line. The lady advised me that they could not stop me from doing it.
The way it works is that you get all the extra on-line discounts that Tesco offer for new policies.
I would imagine a lot of the insurance companies who offer additional discounts for on-line policies would be the same.0 -

try getting a new quote from tesco on-line, it may be even better than your current renewal!!!0 -
hi just tried it and it didnt work for me please look at my thread title how do car insurance companies get away with it0

Sure enough I got a cheaper quote but I also got three unwelcome credit searches on my Experian file- two from AGP and one from Royal Sun Alliance. Why they need to do a search BEFORE one fills in a Proposal I don't know.0

Hi, my 21 year old son passed his driving test today, first time:j
I have been trying to find him insurance and now my head is spinning
I have had a quote from Zurich, for 6 months insurance with accelerated bonus scheme, which I am told means that after 6 months he will have "earned" 2 years no claims bonus. He was going to go fully comp, but the operator advised that as the car is only worth approximately £1000 he might be better going third part fire and theft, with a £100 excess on fire and theft only, none on third party. This is provided he takes the Pass Plus course, which he is starting tonight (great uncle is a driving instructor).
The car is a 1997 P reg Peugeot and will be kept on the street at night. He works in a school and there is secure(ish) parking. The quote was £675 for 6 months.
Does this sound good? Will there be any catches, such as having to pay thousands in the latter 6 months? Neither my husband or myself are drivers - they won't let me pass my test:mad:
Also, the car is currently in his 17 year old sisters name; she is having lessons also, but may take quite a few more. I have obtained the quote for now as if he is the owner, we can easily transfer the car into his name, until she passes her test (then let war begin:eek: ). Does it make a difference if the car is still in her name, would it be more expensive if it stays in her name, but he insures it?
Thanks for any advice.
Best wishes
Carol0
