ravenlighte wrote:On the subject of saving money on car insurance...my renewal is coming up so have just completed the moneysupermarket.com step and was offered the option to take out insurance costing £29.99 to cover my excess up to £500.
Meaning that when getting a quote I could opt for an excess of £500, which would then be covered by this insurance in the event of having to pay the excess...thus reducing my annual premium ( + the £29.99 of course)
Has anyone heard of this before? Thoughts?
Only come across that when I hired a car once.** Freebies and money saved with the help of you all? - Don't know ....lost count! **** Stay Safe **0 -
Hi - this looks like the same product I was offered by thebikeinsurer.com as the price and £500.00 limit are the same.
But it only covers damage caused by
a/ fire
b/ theft
c/ vandalism
d/ total loss or non fault accident involving untraced or uninsured drivers
So it does not cover a typical collision where you just want to recover your excess from the third party or his insurance company. This add on policy may have its uses but do not select a high excess and rely on it to effectively reduce your excess to nothing.

Tried First Direct by fillling in online form, got a quote £30 below my renewal but when I tried to accept and pay the claims in so many years part had changed from 3 years to 5 years. I phoned to querie this and when the forms were checked was asked about fines and points re speeding, which wasn't asked for on forms and my premium went up by about £60. Had I paid without checking would I have later been asked to pay the rest or had I needed to make a claim would my insurance have been void.0

Had a renewal notice from Direct Line for £476.70. Went onto Confused.com and the cheapest reputable quote was from the RAC for £393.99. So took Martin's advice and applied on-line as new customer to Direct Line which came up with £359.10 (saving £117.60)
So much for staying loyal with them for 5 years
Rang their Customer Services to see if they could explain this difference in price and other than a 10% discount for applying on-line they simply couldn't...ah well...their loss my gain. :money:
Will wait for the papers to arrive before cancelling my existing policy - just in case0 -
As I now only drive less than 4000 miles per year (Merecedes E Class Estate), I thought I would get a quote from Norwich Union's new Pay As You Drive car insurance. They fit a tracking device in your car and you pay according to the type of road you are on. My exisiting insurance renewal quoted £414, but the NU PAYD quote was for only £213 including a one-off payment of £50 for fitting the device in my car. If you do a low mileage like me, it will probably be worth you getting a quote. You can do this online here http://www.norwichunion.com/pay-as-you-drive/index.htm
You have to enter your estimate of miles driven to various destinations like supermarket, holidays, friends etc., but beware this seems to overcalculate your annual mileage. So you need to adjust the calculated mileage shown to equate with your estimate (by month) and then click on the Recalculate button.0 -
I noticed that with Barclays it says Drivers have to be 25, bit of a shame as my partner whom is a named driver is 23 and i am 27...... no doubt all these good deals will be gone when my insurance is due in january.0

hansi wrote:I have found what I think is an anomaly on the insuresupermarket website. I started filling in the details, but when it asked for the main driver which would be my wife, it goes on to ask about a no claims bonus which of course she doesn't have as the policy is in my name and I have the NCB. Most of the other sites ask about NCB and ask who the main driver will be. How can I get around this? Surely it's about time these companies realised with husband and wife policies that the NCB should be joint.
You cant 'get round it' - the answer is Zero - she doesnt have any. If you want to use YOUR ncd then put the policy in your name as the main driver.0 -
Martin's email stated that £80 was the best cashback deal
However, I got a cheaper quote through Prudential and via Quidco, got £100 cashback
Making my insurance £314 :money: Not bad for a 19 year old female with 2 years NCBNo longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
