ooh I love your house Aussielass
Thanks so much for sharing.
My OH spent 11 years in Australia,he lived in Port Adelaide. His parents emigrated when he was 2 then got homesick and brought him back here just after he'd been spotted by an Aussie rules scout...needless to say he wasn't impressed!
Cooltrikerchick I'm so jealous..you get to play with fabric everyday.I'm another one with a 'fabric fetish' lol:o sounds like a great job well done on turning something you love into a business.:D0 -

That's an amazing amount...i can't believe how much is thrown away, definately a make do and mend girl....I'm a fan of cutting up clothes to make new ones, esp men's suits/shirts & overcoats into clothes for me. I also started using recycled clothes to reupholster some old furniture.....Does something good come of them? Is it the majority or minority that can be used for something else??simplicity is key0 -

yes ...and it is suprising what people dont use..throw away...etc.... i buy from various places....and the items range from soiled underwear to brand new items still with tags on...
it just show how people are in a throw away society and unfortunetley the majority of people dont think like os mse'rs... ok for my business its great.. but for the enviroment its naff....the majority of the things i get in have a second life so to speak....the pile of clothes in the photo is only a smidging of what i have been getting lately.....
to be honest i know i am going to be shooting my self in the foot here.. on a business level, but the best thing people can do for the enviroment is stop buying new items..... reuse what we have... and re-vamp old items... and that last bit for me is the whole ethos of shabby chic...
i have noticed there are loads of naff 60's 70's wall plagues with little key hooks.. which are brown and a souvinor from spain type thing. that charity shops and car booters cant give away....which i am going to try and get hold of one and re- paint it/ re-vamp it....maybe glue clothes pegs to it instead of the little hooks, and use it for my tea towels etc....
same as with the old brown souvinor letter rack... which again can easily be spruced up....Work to live= not live to work0 -

i am very into shabby chic - i will have to post some photos tomorrow for you
cooltrikerchick - hope i have spelt that right - i have just collected from freecycle exactly what you are describing, it is a very varnished bron gate key hook plaque with teo ducks on............but i am stuck for ideas on what to do with it
if i post a photo maybe someone can give me some good ideas
must go now i have a lovely pair of curtains, again from freecycle calling me to be put up
BTW how do i post photos
i have just recocvered my boiler - yes i said boiler - we have just had an extension built and it needed to be moved due to the regs about how far away the pipe has to go to reach outside, i decided it looked ugly in my new dining room, by the back door.......so i covered it with fablon !! and now it is very shabby chic, - will post photos of that toothe more people i meet!! the more i like my dog !!0 -
I bought a Cath Kidston book today in TK Maxx and there's lots of wee projects in it. Will of course make something useful and not just look at the pretty pictures...Mortgage OP 2025 £6200/7000Mortgage OP 2024 £7700/7000
