I don't know if anybody has seen it done before but I watched Better Life & Gardens (Oz version) on telly last night and they had a great little project to do. Easy & I'm going to try it.

Thought I'd share. :D It's a sign. Get a piece of timber, not sure of the measurements - I think they just used MDF & paint it. They used a dark green & that's what I'm going to use as our outside trim of our house is cottage green. Get your old souvenior spoons & forks you have. They had to raid an op shop. I've got heaps as my mother collected them and I didn't have the heart to dump them. There in a box in the shed. ;)

Arrange them what you want to spell. She also cut some with some snippers & bent them to accommodate the curved letters. Bang the spoon part flat with a hammer & glue onto wood. I will polish mine first & DH said I should paint some clear stuff over the top so they won't blacken. But it looked really good. I think I'll go to the library as they have the magazines and photo copy that project for the exact measurements etc. It was too quick  and I'm a bit thick. :D I'm calling our house Our Haven and that's what I'll have for the name sign out on the front verandah. But you can put them anywhere you'd like a sign.

Is that shabby chic or carpy chic? :D
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

  • If you do it as well as your curtains and tissue box, it will definitely be shabby chic;) :D

Won't that be a lovely reminder of your mum!!

Hope you are going to post a picture of the finished item, Aussielass
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

Give me a chance Triage, I only saw it done last night. :D I will need to buy the timber & glue etc. But I will take a piccy of the finished result. I just hope the thread is still going then. ;)

I have plans to do...................nothing........ this weekend. ;) It's going to 40 degrees this weekend and my only plans are to sit around the house like a beached whale. I will take a few pictures of my house to post on here so you can have a steaky if you like.

CM Please stay calm. You know what the dr said about not getting over excited. :D DH is already on light duties. :p:love: about Mum.

Is it just me or did anyone else think 'Uri Geller' when Aussielass described bending her cutlery ? :rotfl:

Ok mock me then. :p Wait until I've done my spoony creation. You'll all be green with envy and I won't tell you how I did it. :p :rotfl:

There is a website but it glosses over the projects - you have to buy the magazine for that. They have them free at the library but the current month you can't take out but you can photocopy pages there. ;)
