viv - Dulux satinwood finish in 'Wild Forest'.........not really the colour I had in mind but the nearest I could get and I quite like it. Does what it says on the tin........covers in one coat..........lol

pennib - did think about a stencil for Dads tray - got a book of art nouveau ones and wild flowers but then I wondered if I could do anything musical as Dad was a musician............might google a few images and see if I get any inspiration. Not even sure where it'll be yet, which room that is.........which makes it harder. Think I'll paint it cream and maybe go from there.
Sorry no piccies..........don't have all the hi tech stuff to do it.

Hi Mumzy seen you over on the piggybank challenge I dont post on that thread BUT I was so impressed with the challenge I started to use my piggybank for the odd change or two. (Sorry I did open it tho and I have £60 towards my holiday)So if I hadn't spotted your challenge I would never have done it so thanks for that.:T

Back to this thread.....I dont think there is a challenge it is just a friendly chat about all things that are shabby chic. Either bought as such, or, made into something useful/pretty/desirable/gorgeous/wonderful etc etc you get my drift:D And to inspire one another, to make it as cheap as possible....either picking something up cheaply or adapting an item lying around/picked out of a skip/bought. To enhance our homes/gardens.Do you see what I mean?

Ohh cross stitch you hit a nerve there I love cross stitch:rolleyes: You could probably pick up a small cross stitch from ebay, or if you like I have a free cross stitch kit from a mag.....I'm always glad to get others cross stitching! I can send that to you. Get books from the library (that word again....you can tell I'm a fan of theirs;) )there are some that will give you the basics to start you off on this wonderful hobby. You do need patience tho....its not something that will grow quickly. One of my projects took 3 years on and off!! But that was a reaaallly hard one. I have taught my 2 daughter in laws and neice and my dd is also getting back into it. Its quite cheap considering, and use Ebay for my threads and material. Hope that helps:D

Hi there. You should come back to the sealed pot challenge.. i had to open mine and i started the challenge but i have restarted it :)

Annie: I'm so sorry it's taken me a while to catch up with this thread, and I've just come across this - I think your questions have been answered since, but I wanted to say I'm still here, and I'm thrilled you've got your own. Have you started it yet? The hardest thing is putting it back together - if you haven't yet taken it apart, make sure you code each part. We had a nightmare of a struggle to sort it out and it's still not right, as it's loose.
I photographed how I lined it: I've gone thru it on my blog, so if you want to take a look and it helps you. It's at:
    http://lacehearts.blogspot.com/2008/04/ready-to-begin.html
Do post pics of yours - would love to see it (unless you have already, in which case, please point me in the right direction).

Eek! Now you tell me to code it BEFORE taking it apart!! Ah well, what's done's done! :o :rotfl:

Seriously, thanks so much for the advice. :)

I haven't got very far yet. I have taken it apart, removed the lining and have started sanding it down. I've also bought some lovely pink/fawn stripy fabric from IKEA (I was going to use a remnant I had but decided to get a heavier weight material, and I have bought a one-coat satinwood white paint to use after the undercoat. I have started measuring up card to use for the lining... that is the best tip so far, originally it must have been professionally lined because the gold satin lining of the main part (though hideous) was perfectly ruched and glued on with trimming, without any card at all.

Mine is quite big... here is the before (ooh I've never posted a pic on this forum before - I'm quite excited!)

I do look in occasionally to see how everybody is doing. There will be a small change crisis soon;)

I dont mind at all sending you a small cross stitch kit as long as you promise to finish it. Start small and progress from there. I dont know how you send me your address without the whole world knowing tho. :o

Just googled 'tea tray' images and found this site...........

    www.arroo.ie/products/accessories.htm

I like the white tray with the blue flowers as an idea for dads.......trouble is, our kitchen is sort of rust and green..........or does colour not really matter that much ?
Be nice to get another opinion :j

(Hadn't thought of checking piggybank and sealed pot challenges..........I've got a big whisky bottle about third full of loose change.......but might have to tap into that before long............. )

Had a look at the trays and if you have a green/rust combo what about the last tray on that link, it has green and chrysamthemum colours which sound about right to match your kitchen. I think it looks very stylish and looks easy to copy.
I'ts amazing how quickly loose change mounts up. (oops gone into italics and dont know how to change it)
