Pennib, I love your pics, please give us more!!! My kitchen is brand new but I've snagged a couple of your pics for ideas when the doors need a bit of a refurb (or maybe sooner :D ) I have pale ivory doors with an inset panel like yours - wouldn't have thought of painting pics in them, so thank you! :T

Here is another of my cupboard doors.

pennib - thats brilliant -just as your other pieces are........well thats it. You've done it for me. Stencils here I come...........off tomorrow to Focus to get some paint for the kitchen cupboard doors (they'll just be plain) and some matchpots in blue and green to do a cornflower on our bedside cupboard doors.
Then its just a case of thinking of something to do with my Dads old tray to brighten it up..............nothing too pretty, but not sure what yet.
You've got me going now ............and my counsellor this morning thinks the very act of doing something 'positive'should do wonders for my self esteem.

(just hoping I go through with this................when I was visiting Mum I had a sort of 'collision' with the hoist that's used to lift her............oh my aching ribs !!!!! Worse today than they were last night ! Still with a few pain killers I'll cope............just give OH the paintbrush for the cupboars...........lol)
    Mary

I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

Thanks Mary43. I find that if I'm not feeling too good that if I get immersed into making something it takes my mind off it (of course it doesnt always work depending how bad you are). There is a lot of crafty work that you can do sitting on the sofa. I agree with your counsellor as when you step back and realise you've just created a work of art it makes you feel good about yourself:D Maybe when you get started it will give you the impetus to go forward, and will get that flash of inspiration for your dads tray. As I mentioned before the library is a good source of craft type books.
Hope your ribs ease up soon.

Here is another project it is painted then machine and hand embroidered on the top it was so quick only took a day to do! (got the picture from a library book)Another old frame and gold cardboard for the mount.

Icandream, I LOVE your sewing box and have bought something similar in a boot sale today for £8.

I'm really excited to de-lurk and start posting here about my own project. All the before and after pics are so inspiring... I have so far got to the stage of taking before pics and getting my dad's help to take the box to pieces... :D

Some questions, if anyone can help please:

1 My box is a varnished, veneered wood. I plan to sand it down and then use white undercoat and satinwood top coat, which is what I did on a nest of tables last year. Do I NEED to prime it first? I'm not sure what primer does that is different to undercoat but I will buy some if need be..?

2 For the lining - can anyone give me a better idea of what to do. I have bought a blue/white floral polycotton and hve PVA and bostik. How do I make the corners neat? Should I fold over the edges and press it so that there is a 'hem' on the underside?

I will be so very grateful for any help anyone can offer....

    Annie xx

Annie: I'm so sorry it's taken me a while to catch up with this thread, and I've just come across this - I think your questions have been answered since, but I wanted to say I'm still here, and I'm thrilled you've got your own. Have you started it yet? The hardest thing is putting it back together - if you haven't yet taken it apart, make sure you code each part. We had a nightmare of a struggle to sort it out and it's still not right, as it's loose.
I photographed how I lined it: I've gone thru it on my blog, so if you want to take a look and it helps you. It's at:

Do post pics of yours - would love to see it (unless you have already, in which case, please point me in the right direction).
I've had so many projects going on, I haven't been able to keep up with the thread as much. It's great to see what everyone's doing. Love the trompe l'oeile - I could never do that.
