Thanks for that. I have a colour chart and dimity is warmer than clunch. I don't know if you read 'Miss Read' books, but there is a character in them called 'Dimity'.

I went on to the F&B site and my bedroom is 'antique white' and blue. The site says 'slipper satin' is a good match and goes well with other whites. I might use that for the bedhead.

I shall also use the 'brush on' wax - which I have in the garage. I used it on my new fire surround.

    It was meant to be.....................

I LOVE the Miss Read books, especially when I'm not well and I want 'comfort' reading (as well as comfort food;) )

Got a good charity shop bargain today - two Cath Kidston tea towels, brand new, 99p :)
I don't really need any new tea towels at the moment, so I might use the fabric to make something else - I was thinking of a tea cosy but I'm still getting to grips with the sewing machine, and don't want to overstretch myself! Has anyone else made a tea cosy before?

Yes! They are hard to find in nice fabrics at a good price now, so I make my own.

I drew round an old one to make a template for the outer cover, adding 1 cm for turning, then used that shape to make a template for the inner lining and the padding (I use polyester wadding) very slightly smaller.
Cut the wadding 1 cm shorter than the lining & the outer cosy fabric.
Obviously, you need to cut 2 of each layer. If you want a little stalk/ loop at the top you will need a rectangle approx 3 cm x 8 cm.

I sew the linings at the same time: make a sandwich of
    1 x wadding
2x lining fabric (right sides together if it is patterned fabric, I use plain!))
    1 x wadding
then pin it & sew around. Don't turn it as the wadding needs to be on the outside. Trim the excess wadding from the seam and turn the lining out over the long edge of the wadding ready to stitch to the outer cover.

Make the loop by folding the small rectangle in half longways with right sides together, sew down the long edge and then turn rightside out, fold in half and pin to the centre top of one of the outer cosy pieces. You could use a piece of ribbon to save fiddling with the turning.

Match the right sides of the outer cosy together, pin and sew around.

Turn the cosy the right side out and press it. The loop should be sticking up approx 2 or 3 cms in the centre top. Turn the long edge of the outer cover inside 1 cm hem all the way round and press .

Now fit the wadding / lining sandwich inside, adjust by making either the outer or inner slightly smaller till you have a snug fit.

You can either sew round the bottom edges by hand or machine.

If you can find a cheap cosy with an ugly cover you can make your own outer cover and stitch it over the original to save effort.

This is unusual but looks fun to make:
