ive finished the ercol dresser and its my favourite 'shabbying' so far! http://www.flickr.com/photos/25387657@N04/

as much as the laura ashley paint stink they are lovely to work with - i love it!!

It is absolutely amazing how different things look when finished. The bedside table and the telephone stool table are simply fab.

Do you ever sell the finished items?

    Congratulations.

This is a fascinating blog. However, it made me wonder if any of our more prolific shabby chicers use a spray to paint with to get that special finish.

I think I prefer the before version! Maybe not the crackle finish so much but I do like the white and the green open shelf.
What a lot of hard work he put into restoring it though.

Thought I was going to be the only one who said that! I loved it before, though no so crackle crazy!
I crackled a telephone table for my hall it was quite easy, and there is no way it has to be that "crackled".

I too have often wondered about spray painting and would love to have a go.

Having spent a while on here this morning I was bemoaning the fact that I couldn't buy anything to shabby chic as we are selling our house.

Then, I spotted a bedside cabinet that is an awful yellow pine. Looking further I realised I had LOADS of items that are nice shapes and would shabby chic wonderfully well. Four bedside cabinets, a chest of drawers and a bedhead. I do have a nice little dresser, but it is stripped pine and dh would hate it to be messed with. So, I've decided to look out for an old dresser.

The two 'chest of drawer' type bedside cabinets I'm going to take the tops back to the wood and paint the bases. I'm thinking of using F&B's 'clunch' I like the colour - but love the name as well. I wondered about a 'grey blue green' colour for the bedhead.

    I'm feeling quite enthusiastic. :D

Just found this cool site. http://www.sue-davies.co.uk/index.html

i kind of prefer the first too - a bit less of the crackle though!

I havent used spray paint as im not sure i would be able to do it without getting runs etc. I prefer the satisfaction of standing back after each coat of paint lovingly done with a brush....sad i know but i think its the care and thought that goes into the things we do that make them so nice and so 'us' iykwim :D
