It's a beautiful tablecloth aswell. One of the best stain removers for old linen is actually sunlight. If you carefully hand wash the tablecloth and then line dry it but leave it out for a few days as long as the weather isn't to awful! I have been amazed by how much stains fade in the sunshine.
It's worth a try before you resort to more aggressive cleaning methods.

funny enough i do this with old cotton sheets....as by leaving them out for a few days also crisps the cotton up, without using starch and dont make them all limp so to speak when you dry them in the dryer...so it keeps most of the original fel to them...

would the pattern fade ? even if i fold it inside out
Work to live= not live to work
  • The pattern is usually okay as we don't get enough sunlight to thoroughly bleach it,unfortunately!

:Tcongrats NE Girl - that is truly beautiful
  • Wow to everyone NE that is awesome I am truly inspired. My only problem now is to decide which paint to use. Help! should I use satinwood, or cupboard paint or what. Do I just sand and paint or do I use a primer first, even the paint company's info is conflicting. So if you experts could advise me as you actually do these things I would much appreciate it and then my old piney bits and pieces could hopefully become well and truly transformed. Ta.
