Do your kitchen cupboards have a finish on them already?
Yes, they do. They are oak that has been varnished unfortunatelyWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0 -

The other alternative which might sound bizarre is to see if a local car repair place know of anyone who would spray paint them for you.My local furniture shop does spray painting too and the finish is excellent.A few friends have had pine furniture done. They aren't too pricey either so it might be worth checking if you have anything locally.
Just while I'm thinking about it we had our old radiators re-finished and sprayed at a metal powder coating company and they came back looking like new.It worked out cheaper than buying the paint and brushes and cleaners!0 -
vp have you got any suggestions.. i have a beautifull 1940's utility table cloth, with the cc41 mark which has been stamped onto the tablecloth, not a sewn on tab. the cc41 mark is starting to fad, but you can make it out.... what my dilema is i really do need to wash the table cloth, and prob need to use vanish soap or something on the stubborn stain.....and then put it in the washing machine..
or have you got any other ideas on what i can use to try and get rid of the stains/marks...
i must admit i was in 2 minds to take it to the dry cleaners with a pile of clothing that needs doingWork to live= not live to work0 -
here is a quick pic of the table cloth, and the utility mark, which you can just about make out....Work to live= not live to work0

Last time I painted my kitchen doors I used quick drying satinwood and found it really hardwearing. Unfortunately this time I can't find a satinwood colour I really like and was going to use craig and rose eggshell which I 've used it on my dresser. However whilst its fine on the dresser I'm not sure it will be hard enough wearing for the kitchen cupboards. Any suggestions, folks?
I used a Dulux Satinwood on my old pine furniture, you can have any colour made up to your needs. just take a sample colour you have in mind to somewhere like B & Q will make it up.
It certainly worked for me. I now have "Coswold" style furniture which costs hundreds of pounds, for the cost of a tin of paint. :j0 -

Good for you I wonder what kind of people pay those prices, I love their stuff but way out of my money power.

It's worth a try before you resort to more aggressive cleaning methods.0
