Please can someone can help me with this?

Since this forum started ive read every post etc and am completely addicted...like all on here i think!! :)

Only thing is all my furniture is wood, ive posted links to pics of my dining table chairs, sideboard and dresser, i really dont want to start painting them etc incase i end up ruining them and think it might look too much if i paint all of them...i really love the shabby chic look and have just got my kitchen sorted but feel like i need to do something with my dining room.

I also have the leksvik (i think thats the name) furniture from Ikea in my sitting room, coffee table with the six shelves, tv unit and side table which i am considering painting which would prob work better than my dining room stuff!

Sorry for long post and pics!:)

Please ignore the ironing pile on the table :)
If you want to keep the furniture as it is then maybe you need to keep everything else in the room light. I'd go for a neutral colour on all the walls and accessorise with lighter background floral fabrics and crockery etc.Try a light coloured runner for your table it will break up the wood without completely covering the table.

Thanks i might do that, only thing is i just papered the feature wall about a week beforre finding this forum!! I have put one of my cream throws on the table and its just the right size too! (i have about 6 of them piled ontop of my wardrobe!)

I think i might leave the furniture as it is and do what you say just brighten up with accessories etc, ive just got the hang of my sewing machine and bought Sew Pretty omestyle book so will try make lots of things out of there too!

Hello all shabby chicsters. I'm a long-time lurker and superfan of this thread. All the posts here have really inspired me to think about my home and my purchases in a completely different way. In a few short weeks I have gone from stuck-in-a-rut to bursting with ideas. As a side-effect I am watching much less rubbish on television too!

Anyway, finally got round to setting up a flickr and have spent all morning snapping my humble abode. Please remember it is a work in progress ;)

Loving all of your posts - especially the pics.

allyrish - your home looks beautiful. I love the dresser - what a result, and worth every minute! Also love the larder shelves - I'd be inclined to keep them!
Your pin board has reminded me that I want to make one soon...
after my chair, I think! :rotfl:

    Thanks - you are sweet!

I have done a few projects since discovering this thread - the dresser, the chair and the bathroom cabinet. Mostly I have rediscovered things I already had, and presented them in a different way - that's probably been the most fun part - and certainly the most MSE friendly!
I copied the pin board from some I had seen on ebay. Really easy to do with a bit of MDF and upholstery foam.

Okey dokey, here's my finished bag courtesy of a Marks & Spencers curtain from my stash of fabrics. I went a tad overboard after raiding my bits and bobs tin and used part of a broken bracelet for the button and some tiny crystal beads for the rose centres.
I did have a few scary moments when making the bag, especially at the end when I had to pull it inside out. I was sure I had sewn it completely wrong and back to front, but VOILA, it was ok!!!

    That's so pretty. Well done:T

Took a break from painting the plant trough when ex foster girl called and wanted to go to the big second hand shop at the bottom off the road, so off we went. I came back with a candle and she came back with pair of curtains and a blackboard for the kitchen with 3 lovely sort of block piccys along the top - chicken, cow and sheep.
Loads of shabby chic type stuff there but at a price !!! Enamel housekeepers box (new) £15 !!

Got back home and she's now relieved me of an old chair in the garage I'd forgot I'd got that she's going to paint up, plus the drawer/table thingy from computer room...........she loved it and says she'll paint it for the bathroom.

Thought - right............now to the skeleton leaves on plant stand...........come to the conclusion me and pva glue have fallen out big time !!! skeleton leaves also.............do they want to stick ? well first ones did, second ones just do not want to..............whats more the glue is fetching some of the paint off where I've dabbed round the leaves so I got to touch up the paint as well.
(anyone want a bag of skeleton leaves ???????)

Get the feeling I ought to shelve this little project for today........hardly dare do anymore painting in case that goes wrong too................lol

Oh well, things can't always go right can they..............lol Least the whole project is costing me nothing..............very moneysaving but not good for the temper.......................lol

I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !
