Elaine...I have an old machine like yours ( belonged to my grandmother). Does it have a long bobbin or a more modern one? On mine there is a screw thingy on the bobbin case which controls the tension and the thread would bunch up and tangle if this was too loose...maybe worth a try to see if it helps.
Good sewing...I made all my dresses in the 60s on that machine but haven't used it in years...neither have I used the treadle one which is in some of the sheds ( I know, shame!) which belonged to my grandmother's sister.

"cant seem to get the stitching going to actually sew" - not at all?[/quote
The cotton comes out of the needle and seems to tangle near the bobbin. I havent managed to get any stitches done yet.
Hmm, I couldn't initially get mine to work cos of a similar problem and handed it over to my mum who threaded it correctly. If that is not the problem and yours is threaded ok then another problem i found was that the tensioner dial had been knocked when I'd had to replace a broken needle. A quick tighten of that and all worked well. The problem this caused was that the stitch caught but left a large loop of thread on the reverse of the fabric and after a few stitches it would all tangle in the gap where the bobbin thread comes up.
We googled and found a tutorial on threading antique sewing machines and although it was a different model than mine we were able to work out what went where.
Hope some of that helps, holler if it didnt make sense  it is early and i havent had a cuppa yet...:DPiggypoints - 207+£10 * Quidco - £95 * Tesco - 1095 * Sainsbugs - 4237I SHALL be debt free!!!!!:D

kaznelson: Thank you. It was actually inspired by my 6 year old having used modroc at school to make a bumblebee. I'd just bought this broken plastic mannequin, and didn't want to add it to landfill, so I wrapped it in modroc (a hilarious evening that one, with the kids - how messy was my kitchen!:rotfl:). Then painted it with primer. Now I'm in the process of sticking small bits of colour prints to it - it's still a work in progress!
Elaine: I love it. I got rid of one, and I'm upset whenever I see one now as I realize it was a bit rash. Good luck with it.
Charleybabes: sound gorgeous. I never see anything like that and around my way, it would be £10 or £15 in charity shop
Ches: thank you. I've ordered a brochure.

I don't know if its any help but for years Croft Mill have supplied remnants. www.croftmill.co.uk. They provide a wicked brochure that always has me in stitches (forgive the pun) with its very witty descriptions. I haven't looked at their web site but assume you can order a brochure via it. If not the phone number is 01282 869625. As an example, in an old oct/nov 2007 brochure they are selling 94" wide poly/cotton sheeting for £1.00 per metre.
Unfortunately, Croft Mill is in the process of winding down the mail order business, as the guy who runs it is retiring. At the moment they're not taking orders til next week as they're so busy, but If anyone wants anything I can PM them details from the last catalogue.0 -
