How about 'shelf cloths' - white cotton with a broderie anglaise trim which hangs over the edge of the shelf; you could make them from an old sheet and trim from a market stall or haberdashers. (If you say the area that you are in then there is almost bound to be someone who can advice on specific shops) You could also have a table cloth to match. Pretty china - bits that you already have or from charity shops etc, could go on the shelves. You would be amazed what actually looks good if you get it out - a single cup and saucer, an enamel casserole or dish, some wine glasses, vases. A vase of flowers would look nice on the main part of the dresser, and/or on the table. If real are beyond your budget on a regular basis (but daffodils are very cheap at the moment) then there are some great silk ones around.0 -
Thanks so much Seakay and NEgirl, Those ideas are lovely. I've just realised too, that this shabby chic thing is really all about having the confidence in yourself to try out ideas and to enjoy being you - you-nique:D
I can crochet, knit and hand-sew (Can't use a machine though:o) so I can start right now.
Ooh, I must just go and measure up the table for a lovely table cloth and get onto Ebay
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou:T

Budgeteer aren't you lucky having such a talented husband!
If I was lucky enough to have that, I would put some bunting on it - easily made, or can be picked up on ebay for next to nothing. I would display pretty plates, tea cups etc etc on it, along with some pretty photo frames and maybe an old jug full of fresh flowers or nice, realistic looking plastic ones.Anyone fancy buying my degree? It will only cost you £18k.
May grocery challenge - target = £140
£2 coin savers club - started April 1st - so far £28!:D

I agree with the others, flowers are always a first for prettying anything up!
It's just your style, what you like and what pleases you to look at. Love the ideas though and a pretty tablecloth will look fab. Your dh is VERY clever. He would be in demand for ever more if we all lived near you lolol!
