My Mum has a huge mangle in her back garden! She got it from a tip I think, painted and restored it and it now has plants and flowers growing from it! It's lovely and always gets commented on!

I've got one in my garden too. It was restored but has 'mellowed' over the years but it still looks lovely and I'm amazed at how many people want to have a go turning the handle when they see it!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
Iwould love a mangle!!! I would get NOTHING done at all except laundry! There used to be one at the swimming baths we used for school swimming - I never took a soggy swimsuit home to my mum!!!!!
We used have one at our swimming baths, too!
the best new use for a mangel that I ever saw was when I visited a friend who was at Sheffild University (years ago). In the shared kitchen of the student accomodation was a double sink, and attached between the two sinks was a mini-mangle. It was brilliant for odd bits of hand washing, but also for ensuring that dishcloths never got left damp enough to go smelly.
When my step-father had a stroke, which mean that he had very reduced movement in his right hand, I looked everywhere that I could think of to find one, but with no luck.0 -
Ive got an old mangle in the garden too..............painted it red and green and used to hang a basket off the arched piece at the top but to be honest it has plants in rubs growing round the bottom and its a feature all of its own so I didn't bother last year.Mary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

if no one has any ideas its not a problem as this usefull bit of furniture holds documents i would not want visitor using as bedtime reading so it would be swapped with one of my bedside cabinates when the room is used!
it would just be nice to loose the black if possible - any advice?
Hammerite type paint will cover it - you can get quite a variety of colours now. My sister did hers midnight blue and put stickers of stars all over.
Alternatively a fabric cover with a roll up front - like the cover on a mini green house or a fabric wardrobe. You could choose a fabric to suit and roll down the front (velcro or ties to hold in place) when you had visitors.0 -

sorry, ignore the hammerite, I misread and thought that your filing cabinet was metal!
Sand and use egshell/satinwood? Probably need at least two coats of white primer/undercoat first.0 -
A few weeks ago, at a car boot sale, I bought a lovely piece of new linen for one pound, it was a single curtain and I salvaged the curtain tape and hooks for another project.
I have covered two chair seats and also placed underneath the glass of two tables. I have enough left over to make a tote shopping bag too!
Not bad for one pound eh?!!
Incidentally, the two tables were just a few pounds for the pair and the bergere (?) armchairs were about £15 the pair from a local auction.0 -
THey're beautiful! You must be so pleased with your efforts, Lovely chairs."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
