  • VintagePleasure - I did have it checked out by a Corgi engineer - so I know it's safe - and the enamel is in perfect condition, whereas my less-than-10 years old Stoves cooker was already rusting in places. They don't make things to last any more!

Absolutely right! we live in a consumer society and some things are just like "throw away" now, nothing really built to last.

That is a really solid looking cooker you have there.

Would love to see a pic, Bibbly!

I'll try and get her to take one and email it over. She lives 2.5 hours drive so too far to pop over

With inspiration from this site, I have just bought some lovely pieces of fun fabric off ebay, just to make cushions with, they depict, beach huts and sailing boats, some "well fed" bathing beauties and a french bistro scene and I am waiting the delivery of another piece with vintage french ladies with poodles and cars on it. I am usually quite plain in some of my decor so these will give a bit of life to the chairs in the conservatory or even the window seat in the kitchen end. Of course I will have them made for me as I am not handy:o. This site helps you look at things in a whole new light.:A

I've got a two drawer filing cabinet for household documents.......metal one I got from argos few years back. It was grey, very 'office' looking so I painted it in metal paint (name escapes me) in a sort of brass colour..........sounds awful but it blends in well with computer desk. Desk was an mfi one and I put one coat of cream paint on then dry brushed a darker shade on top to try and give it a grainy effect..........I was so pleased with it I did the tongue and groove panelling behind the desk as well, and the skirting boards and the bookcase (its built in a recess).
Amazing what you can do with a pot of paint...................lol

It's some sort of spell Mary (the pot of paint thing)....you know the feeling, you're walking around paintpot and brush in hand, original job finished, looking for anything that's stood still long enough to paint!

    I blame these tester pots!
  • Does everyone know about the Community Re>Paint scheme? This is great for everyone who wants to redecorate but can't stretch the funds. Also great for shabby chic revamp on furniture. I am chairman of a recycling centre in Wigton, Cumbria and we run a community re>paint as part of a national scheme. We divert unwanted household paint from landfill and grade it and mix it into full tins, then we make it availabe to whoever wants it. Each scheme has its own rules, but we charge £10 membership per year and you can take as much as you want with you. We stock, emulsion, gloss, eggshell varnish satinwood, you name it we've got it! To find a community re>paint near you visit their website.
  • Anyone fancy buying my degree? It will only cost you £18k.
