They are really pretty, what a great find.
If you nip into Laura Ashley you should be able to get big enough samples to pop into a picture frame.0 -

You all have such imaginations! It never ceases to surprise me how good orange pine looks when it is painted, especially tongue and groove boards.
I finally got my pics on my blog of the 'Retro unit' I got for a tenner on ebay a few weeks ago0 -
Hello everyone,
Today I nipped into our local charity furniture shop and saw some lovely things - some of them were shockingly expensive for a charity shop though - £500 for a slim Welsh dresser:eek:. But nevertheless I managed to get a 1930's singer sewing machine complete with wooden box for £20 and a small cabinet for our hallway for £5. The cabinet needs a fair bit of work, but I bought some primer and sandpaper on my way back so I am all set to make it look as good as new. I think a new set of handles would bring it up a treat too.
Oh and I also nipped into Laura Ashley and had a riffle through their old wallpaper bin and got 5 full rolls for £3.50 and some samples. So quite a good day for me shabby chic wise.
Oh and I won £78 on the Grand National so that is some more money for me to spend on the house.:T:rotfl:Just don't tell the husband.;)
Oh and bibbly I think you have done a great job on your dresser.Anyone fancy buying my degree? It will only cost you £18k.
May grocery challenge - target = £140

Sounds like you've had a good day daisy
Some good bargains there but what a price for a welsh dresser !!! Unless it was a real original old piece then maybe it might be worth it.
And winning some dosh on the National !!! I lost miserably - only race I ever have a flutter on and then its only quid each way. I literally shut my eyes and stuck a pin in the paper.............picked 'Knowhere' and I reckon that was about right for it................lolMary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

Morning ladies
Well I have posted the pictures of the dresser that I painted (above), but I have a bit of a problem with it, which I hope you can help with.
First of all I sanded it all down quite thoroughly. I initially painted it with Homebase own oil based paint but just quickly as after a few strokes I wasn't all that keen on the colour, so I kind of used that as an "undercoat" if you like. I then painted it with Farrow and Ball oil based eggshell. When I tried to put the shelves back in yesterday (which was a bit tricky), some of the paint started coming off, where the edges of the shelves were rubbing onto it.
The thing is that the paint was literally PEELING off, in strips. Not just chipping, iyswim. Like strips of sellotape??? I am SO disappointed. I had to try and touch it up and you can't see it too much because it's inside, but I just don't understand?
I thought that F&B oil based eggshell was going to be quite "hardy"? Can anyone help please and tell me what I did wrong before I tackle my next project?
Tia.

I usually use an electric sander to take a layer of wood off the sides of where the drawer fits into or alternatively only put one coat of paint on the drawer sides, top, edges etc wherever they seem tight fitting.
Don't give up because it really is easily remedied with a little time and more paint.
I hope this helps it was hard to word right!0
