I have made a few of these as presents.

The covers are removable so they can be washed. They are always appreciated. I must make myself one too!

That is gorgeous!! Do you have a pattern or anything for them? When we get a house (sorry to keep banging on about it!) I will have to handcraft all presents as we are gonna be mega skint!!! I happen to thiknt hey are much nicer, but very few people I know would appreciate a home made gift how sad for them! :(

Material cover might be more resilient than paper too!! I really really love the look of that, and then perhaps I could add embelishments to the pages! hmmm!!! thanks for the inspiration and if you have a pattern/tips how to make it, i would be much obliged! :)

the only problem with this thread is that it's SOOO huge that I can never find anything when I'm trying to! Somebody mentioned a sewing site a few pages ago or so and now I can't find it - grrr!

    Can anyone help please?

do you make mini books etc as well as scrapbook jamtart? I always find that handmade gifts get a better response than bought gifts as it shows the time and effort put into them - i made some star books for my mum and mil for mothersday last year and it was nice to give them something that they looked at for ages and didnt just go' oh thats nice' and put away to be used later iykwim :) *wonders if we know each other from another forum too* :)

I make all sorts of everything to do with paper crafts. I absolutely love it, die cut shapes are my favourite sort of things to play with! they are gorge!! I went to craft & embroidery classes from the age of 13-15, then got into cardmaking/scrapbooking 18-present (23!!), I've worked in a large card/scrap book supply shop for a long time & used to do classes ...amusingly everyone thinks I'm really arty, but thats just a hobby, my main job is so far removed from the daintyness of crafting everyone is shocked when I tell them thats just my hobby not profession!!

Thanks for the link vintagepleasures, gonna dig out our original 1950s singer sewing machine! Methinks I'll be stealing that for my house :D

Mine's a living flame gas fire.I'm too lazy for a real coal one! It's still lovely though.
Facepainter I bet the 'Northern Lights' were gorgeous. Sometimes health and safety re just spoil sports. Just a side note but I think because they are against regulations if there was a accident due to the bedroom fires then some insurance companies won't cover you. It's worth checking your policy just to see.

This is what we have in the sitting room now. It is quite realistic and surprising the heat that comes off it, nice to see a glow in the fireplace.

Talking health and safety, old people would laugh, my husbands aunty used to have the kids stay with her, maybe 6 kids in the big double bed and CANDLES on the corners of the bed post for light:eek: , they were doused when they went to sleep, but can you believe it! talking a lot of years ago mind!!

They would have been shabby chic without knowing it.
