The thread's moved on a bit. But just wanted to say to Vivw that the dresser came up lovely.

Agree with Haribo too  about doing rooms in certain ways. You don't have to do the whole house. I wouldn't call your bedroom French Art Nouveau HJ :D
What are all the whips and chains on the wall then? I thought it was medieval. :p

They are Art Nouveau Whips and chains you Philistine. :p

What is it exactly that makes this thread so inspiring? Apart from the money saving element, I think it is to see how real people have been doing such great projects, achieving wonderful results, which are not part of a TV makeover programme or featured in a book.

Thanks again triage999 for starting this thread. Has anyone nominated it for “Thread of the Month”? (I've just done it for March - not sure if it was nominated for February, when it started)

    Long may it continue...

I totally agree :T I'd love to nominate if someone could point me in the direction of the thread please :)

Are your whole houses decked out in Shabby Chic? Im thinking of just doing my kitchen (in my non purchased house!) and then the rest in more of a modern look - do you think that will just look odd?

Mine isnt. I am doing a sort of shabby chic/oldy worldy/stuck in the past, theme in my kitchen. The rest of the house is just a mish mash of bits and pieces that i have picked up from car boot sales and auctions and also there are lots of toys/kidstuff all over the house from my youngest three children:o When i am satisifed with my kitchen i intend on trying to do shabby chic in my bedroom. I am also one of those on a `tight` budget.
I am enjoying this thread so much.:T

the house we went to view had an original 1940s kitchen in it. the pantry, the wooden shelves the lot. I LOVED it, (dunno where the dishwasher would fit in however!) and all my OH could think of was how he could knock down the wall (with the shelving!) and make a new door!!! it was that kitchen was the inspiration for my thinking against the grain of "one must have a fitted kitchen" - old ones are so cute!

edit: love the fact i can share my ideas here without getting hooted at, my OH thinks Im crackers for saving for the bottom drawer (!!) apparently we dont need to do this yet, and for thinking about how I want to decorate the house that we havent even bought yet, so Im glad you lot will listen!!

Hey girlies :) (We have no men yet!!!)

I have had a rather hectic weekend and have not been around much so apologies :) just been catching up on all of your lovely projects! I am chuffed to bits that this thread is going from strength to strength!!! and welcome to all the new faces :)

Today I have been finalising my kitchen plans (after seething most of the day when 15 yr old daughter got caught smoking out of bedroom window) which I will be ordering at the end of this week/beginning of next! just trying to see if we can save some of the £3000 that they want to fit it by employing our own independant fitter!

    Now.......................

Hubby said I can have a couple of pressies for my new kitchen! so I have chosen this

    YellowArtisan.jpg

I have been after one for ages and to find it in the same colour as my Rare Le Crueset saucepan set also in this colour is a bonus!!

I was desperately after a new dinner service but I am stuck on what to get :( last year I saw a new set launching called Wobbleware or something along those lines, it looked like pottery plates that had been left to go mis shaped slightly then fired and glazed like it but I cannot find it anywhere :( so if anyone can help me out I would be eternally grateful!!

Or if there are any nice chunky/chalky off white or cream pottery plate sets give me a shout!

not my colour kitchen aid - needs to be either greyish (1st choice) or red!! but great anyway!! i have a red la cruesette casarole dish .... pressie from my gran 18 years ago and gets weekly use ( best kitchen equiptment i have)!
