do you mean a portiere rod? you can buy modern ones I know. They fit on the door itself and lift when the door opens. I'm very lucky that the old place I'm moving into has an arched front doorway and an old metal portiere. I managed to rescue it just as one of the renovators decided it was old tat! he has now been educated about the value of old/original fittings!
Thank You and Mary 43 too - I knew they existed and I hadn't dreamt of them!!!
can now type portiere into a search instead of door curtain thingy track/pole!!!!!:D0 -

Edit... I didn't read your edit.
Haribo, whilst looking at your fab sewing machine pic I had a nose at your other pics!
All I can say is you have a wonderful home! :T
It was lovely of you to get the machine for Pink Winged. Were you real life friends before MSE, or did you meet through here? Hope you don't mind me asking!Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

And Haribo, you are rather lovely (always!!! )Well I do have to be especially nice to her today!
Clutterfree, as Churchmouse has said above we are sisters so have known each other for more than 34 years!
Penny, even though we're sisters thankfully we're best friends too.
Just to keep this thread on topic so that Ellidee won't slap my wrists.....I bought Haribo a pressie yesterday....it's particularly shabby chic....with more emphasis on shabby I must admit, but Haribo is now the proud owner of an old green mincer. She wanted it....honestly she did!

I'll post a pic of it when it arrives. I love it. Thankyou. xx:j :T :A
I've just done a very silly thing.Someone has offered an old kitchen larder on freecyle and I said I'd take it. It needs repainted. :j :j :j Problemis that the only place it will go is where we currently hang our coats and put our shoes in the utility room.
 Oops.
I'll do the obligatory before and after pics when/if I get it.

I just had a thought. Has anyone tried using French ebay for small (postable!) items? Bet it's filled with lots of lovely antique linen and other treasures that would be ridiculously expensive to buy in the UK.0

I have been reading this thread with interest. (Though I don't understand why it's not split into weekly threads - it's SOOOOO long!!!)
Anyway, I am NOT a shabby chic kind of gal (!) but LOVE looking at all the stuff. I love it but it's just not my style, if you see what I mean. HOWEVER, get this ... yesterday I was in the charity shop and I bought a really old sewing box - the kind that's on legs, the top opens and then there's space in it, iyswim.
So, having read your threads and all the inspiration on here I might have a go at painting it to use in my lounge! SEE WHAT YOU'VE ALL DONE?!!!!
I'll try post a pic of it a bit later!
