In defence of the Laura Ashley boxes, I've got some of these in a stripey design, and lots of boxes from other places, and though the LA ones are expensive, they are the sturdiest solidest boxes I have ever found.
Well worth the money for the quality, and if you look after them they will last you a very long time.

I have the faded roses in duck egg blue Laura Ashley Magazine boxes, I got them in the sale last year for £2 each, they were £4 each originally so keep an eye on their sales too!
Just went to TK Maxx (told you I was an addict!) I will post my finds on today's blog update!!
If I buy anymore french inspired stuff I will have to move there to fit in lol0 -

I've seen pics online (sorry cant find them now) of magazine files like these made from cut down cereal boxes covered with fabric and there were some covered with wallpaper too. They looked really good. Shoe boxes are great for storage and they stack so well!
just thinking about this, I think large washing powder boxes would be stronger than cereal boxes?

This is very slightly off topic....but the curtain I make will be shabby/country chic!!!!!
Years ago I remember seeing a curtain track for a door curtain that - when you opened the door - moved with the door so unlike mine currently you didn't rip half the hooks off the track. I've even made the curtain about as narrow as I can get away with without it becoming pointless!!!
Does anyone recall seeing something like this????
Or if not have you got an alternative??? we have the original victorian door with about an inch or so of wood above it then a fan light window.0 -

do you mean a portiere rod? you can buy modern ones I know. They fit on the door itself and lift when the door opens. I'm very lucky that the old place I'm moving into has an arched front doorway and an old metal portiere. I managed to rescue it just as one of the renovators decided it was old tat! he has now been educated about the value of old/original fittings!... don't throw the string away. You always need string!
