I have been "collecting" all the shabby chic links that have been posted on this thread and adding them to my bookmarks (along with some others I've discovered). So I thought it would be useful to list them here in a sort of "mega index".

Am going full steam ahead lol never realised I had so much stuff (well rubbish) in the house..... trouble is everyone knows I like to recycle/re-use/create and my house is full to the brim with other peoples cast offs. I'm going to be really brutal and get rid once and for all!!!!!!0 -

what ever the reason... all your photos of yuor lovely kitchens and other rooms in your houses have made me do my house...
I agree wholeheartedly. I have been "stuck" at home through ill health since September and was so fed up with looking at furniture in rooms I just did not like. I realised I had a house that did not say much about me / us other than we were too busy to care much about our surroundings.
There is nothing actually wrong with most of our furniture, it is not broken or unusable, it more or less matches in style, but it is too familiar and the rooms need pulling together: I put most of our "clutter" (= ornaments etc) away to make dusting easy after a big op about 6 years ago, and they still have not surfaced!
I have been reading the thread and enjoying the photos of REAL houses - thank you for sharing! :A - and browsing the sites: THANK YOU Kisto! :T .
I decided what I liked, and gradually I have started to put some heart back into our home.
I loved the retro enamelware, and already have a pink kettle and toaster (quite by accident) in my too bland creamy yellow kitchen. By adding some pink rose fabric tea cosy, mixer cover and storage bags(made from 99p Buyology table mats), blue, pink and green enamel storage tins and a cream/ pink spotty table cloth from Dunelm Mill pvc fabric the room is alive. Friends have noticed the change, and somebody even asked if we had had a new kitchen! Its cost about £60 so far, but the biggest expense was a big lavender blue enamel bin with "detergent" printed on the side, that holds my big washing powder & fabric conditioner, £12.99 in TKMaxx
.
I am typing with painty fingers because I have started to work on the bedroom furniture. None of it matches in style, shape or colour, we have ugly pine, fake oak, a gingery 50s varnish. OH used to say it did not matter because we only slept there and we could always turn the light off... I think he meant to be reassuring!
I am F&Bing the bedside tables, then will work my way round the LLoyd Loom storage box (currently green), the 50s Parker Knoll armchairs and the shortened dinner trolley (somebody called it a dumb waiter?) that I use as a sidetable. I chose Matchstick as I think it will be strong enough to cover the fake oak, but still be light and clean. If it is a success I might persuade OH that we should paint the IKEA chest too, it is the only piece of 'proper shop' furniture in the room, the rest was carboot or small ads, when we got married in the mid 80s thrift was not cool, but we were broke.
I am waiting for the frst coat to dry now - I seem to be good at making it look distressed (= always was bad at painting evenly!) - but I am pleased by the effect. :j . I love this thread!I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Thank you Kisto, that is incredibly helpful. I spent ages trying to find Vintagepleasure's blog, yesterday, for starters!
Vintagepleasure: thank you.
All: Is it easy to post a pic within your thread? I found complicated instructions, but failed to do it: do I have to register with another site and upload my photos and supply a link? Some of you clever people seem to post pics that appear in your message, other equally clever people post links to their pics and I seem to be the only total eejit around who doesn't understand and has limited computer savvy. I would so like to show you all a before and after pic of my mirror, as it was so inspired by all of you. x

nomoney, upload your photo to http://imageshack.us/ first.
On Imageshack....Use the browse button to find the image on your pc, tick the resize box if required (I normally choose the 640 x 480 option). Then press the 'host it' button. You will the be taken to a page with various link options, depending where you want to dispaly the photo - for these forums i normally select the link that has " Hotlink for forums (1)" beside it. Then copy the code in the box and simply paste it in your post.:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j0 -
