Well, tomorrow I've decided is the day to paint old pine bedside cupboard we;ve got. It came from germany, didn't strip very well so I gave it to elsest son who painted it matt black (his 'thing' at the time). Now he's moved and doesn't want it any more its back with us............sentiment prevents me from chucking it so its in for a bit of a 'makeover'. Thought it would go in my computer room next to the bed settee but measurements prove otherwise.
Thought it might fit next to the sofa in the kitchen.............measurements etc.
So..........it's going in the front room between the sofa and an armchair. Theres a low coffee table there at the minute my youngest son made at school but it means the lamp is a bit low........this cupboard is taller.......I might just be able to read better....................lol Oh eck...........the phone sits on that table..........now will the phone wire go as far up as the cupboard height ? Oh why or why are there always little 'hiccup' type things once you move furniture about ? - well there are in our house. OH has just painted the wall at the side of the old pine dresser we;ve got (yes.........guilty of paint around things rather than move great lumps) but thats the wrong colour paint.............bet I haven't got any sage -y green sort lurking in the cupboard and really darent look now else I'll go right off the idea.
Notion is to paint cupboard, use some skeleton leaves on the door randomly (did it on bathroom cupboard and it looks ok and I've got loads of these leaves -must have been charity shop bargain). Have to double check bathroom cupboard to see how I got the age effect on it with the leaves. They're so fragile.
Now will my little cupboard be classed as sort of 'shabby chic' ? It's not floral or spotted or anything like that ..............or maybe it'll just be 'shabby'............

I don't think that you need spots for shabby chic - in fact I always think of spots as being more '50s kitsch, but that's probably because I thought that shabby chic was sort of faded country house or chateau.
Whatever the definition, I've loved looking at all the lovely things that people have made, and good luck with your cupboard mary43

It's absolutely stunning - how I'd love to squeeze that in my house!

Vintagepleasure, I owe you a huge apology. I hadn't realized when I mentioned the patchwork wall, that it was on your blog that I saw it. I took a longer look at your blog today, and it is a fabulous place to be. Thank you for posting so many inspirational pictures. I'll let you know if we achieve a wall for my daughter's room, but I can't imagine it will look anything like what you have done.
May I ask what the book you've shown the pic of the whole wall is?

Mary43 - can't wait to hear how you get on. Skeleton leaves sounds a lovely effect.

I'm sure that, early on in this thread, someone was looking for a TV cabinet to hide their TV in? But the thread is now SO long, I can't recall who it was!
  • Homebase opens near us in 2 weeks(its also near mollymunchkin, i live near her!) and my mum is the woman going to be in charge of prices - i cant wait, I have requested text messages when she finds out whats being reduced to silly prices, and begging her to let us have the family discount card! lol.
I was in a car boot today scouring for goodies for the kitchen but nothing grabbed me
    Better luck next time......

Thanks Charleybabes and Code-a-holic for the Homebase news. I'm glad I don't have long to wait for a local F&B stockist and don't have to travel to Swansea :j

ooh natlou you little tinker...you got that for a good price they are lovely shelves. Where are you going to put them???

Rachelleblondel and Vintage Pleasure - I have a really long wall in my hallway as you come into the house that is really bare - so the shelves are going there - I don't think I will paint them as they are already a pretty colour - I don't have anything to put on the shelves yet - What an excuse to go car booting! Harrogate is about 60 miles from us (a long way to travel for firewood said my hubby - but thats men for you:rotfl: )

Also, somewhere near the beginning of this thread, I can't remember what page - its got so long - I mentioned some projects I was doing from the 'Sew Pretty Homestyle' book - Well I have just finished a shabby chic bunny and some easter geese - the pics are on my blog https://www.summerbythesea.blogspot.com
