I got my £59 back (via cheque which cleared) within a week of writing them a letter threatening them with legal action. Dodgy traders, but there are vast amounts of them out there nowadays unfortunately

How the hell did I fall for that one ????
I've had my paperwork come through the post today for my Wentworth Loan, I thought the paperwork looked a bit un professional so I thought I'd check them out on line and came across all these awfull stories. I obviously haven't competed the paperwork they want me to sign but I do remember when they call me to tell me I had been "accepted" (yeh right) for a loan they asked for my debit card details and I did ask them why they needed them and they said it was just to veryfy it was my bank account. I have this morning emptied out the bank account for them debit card details and I'm now going to wait patiently for a bank statement to see if they have took anything out of my account. I too have tried all morning to call them but had no joy, how do these people get away with these things ????
They did exactly the same thing to me !!! I held on for 45 mins until my call was answered. They gave me a name "Jenny Shepherd" to the freepost number on the top of the letter detailing what went on. She apparently refunds the payments, they actually took my money !!!!! BANDITS !!! Awaiting a response !!!:mad::mad:0 -

I stupidly applied to Wentworth Direct without doing any research about them first. Surfice to say that I too was duped by this company. After being offered a loan at 15.2% APR I was then asked for by debit card details so that they can 'check I have a UK bank account'. There was no mention of the £59 fee at any point during the conversation.
Anyway, I sent the following letter to Wentworth Direct :Dear Sir / Madam
I am writing to request that you refund to me the £59 you have illegally taken from my bank account. I was informed by my bank that this payment of £59 was taken on Thurs 14th Oct, showing on my account on Friday 15th Oct.
When I originally spoke to your representative I was told that you had a loan arranged for me, although he would not tell me with whom, and that all I had to do was to complete the forms that would be duly sent out to me.
AT NO POINT was there any mention of a £59 fee, and I was actually conned into providing my debit card details as I was told that they were needed to ‘check that I have a UK bank account’.
As I am sure you are aware taking money from another by DECEPTION is a CONTRAVENTION OF THE THEFT ACT and punishable by up to 10 years in prison plus a fine.
Indeed, your credit broker licence dictates that you cannot in six months time ask for more than a nominal fee. Certainly NOT £59 and certainly NOT before you have provided access to a loan.
You have 7 days from the date of this letter to provide the refund of £59, and not a penny less, or I will be forced to pursue this matter with the OFT, Financial Ombudsman, Small Claims Court, Police, or any other means at my disposal.
Yours Sincerely
I then backed this up by immediately contacting the Financial Ombudsman who also sent a letter on my behalf.
Imagine my suprise when I only 1 week later I received a text message from Wentworth Direct advising that my refund had been processed and would appear in my account with 5 working days.
This was on Fri 22nd Oct, so I am expecting to receive a refund at some point this week. I will advise when the funds actually appear in my account, but it's certainly promising.
I would advise anyone looking for a refund from these crooks to follow the same procedure I did....0 -

Nope, that was my first post on here because I'm warning people about this company. You only have to do a google search for 'Wentworth Direct' to see that this is not a hate campaign. I even found stuff on National Newspaper websites about this firm. This is a company that no longer exists with Companies House and has had various credit licences removed from them by the OFT over the years. I only wish I'd researched them before I dealt with them. Having read this, if you or any others wish to ignore the advice then that's your prerogative, but you can't say you weren't warned.0 -

HI ALL
Beware of this company.
I, like many others, received a text that I had been 'Pre Approved' for a loan of upto £15,000.
There was a link to a web site, which I clicked on, completed the application, applying for £8,000 over 5 years.
ALL OK UP TO THEN.
The advertising said 'Some Brokers ask for an upfront/arrangement fee', 'we do not'. It also said that on another page 'There are no fees'.
At the end of the process there was a page, just like the 'Registration' page for this site 'you will receive an email shortly, click on the link to activate your account'!
I logged on to emails on my smart phone, even checked the Junk folder and NOTHING!
I then missed 8 calls from a BLOCKED Number, and finally received a txt saying 'Delighted to tell you your loan has been approved', 'please call 08443244171'. There was no mention of the charges for calling this number, the 0844 implying that it would be 'local rate' call.
I rang them several times, eventually my wife managed to get through.
As I walked into the house, I noticed she had our joint account Debit Card out about to give the long numbre across the card!
I asked what that was about and was told 'it is for the £59 admin fee for the approved loan'!! I said there was no admin fee and she was adamant there was, as she had been told, and that it was worth it because the payment was only £187 per month for 5 years.
WHY is there no mention of what the payment will be at the outset of the application?
WHY does the application on line tell you there are no fees, when they demand an 'Admin Fee'??
The entire process on line claimed 'no fees up front & money paid out same day in to your account'! When I asked the guy on the phone why could he not email me full written details and quote, he simply said 'everything is done by post as it is a contract you need to sign and send back'?? WHAT?? If it is same day into your account, then how can they send contracts in the post??
BEWARE THEY ARE CON MERCHANTS. THEY SEEM TO ASK DIFFERENT AMOUNTS OFF DIFFERENT PEOPLE, AND IF YOU HAVE 10 x £40 PER DAY X 365, YOU WILL GET £146,000 PER ANNUM!
Sadly they get far more than 10 callers per day, and ask far more than £40 'admin fee'!!
How can I get them reported please?:mad:0 -
From their T&C's that you tick to say you have read when applying for a loan online with them.
For our services there is a brokers fee charged which is payable by you the client for the use of our services as a broker. This is charged as an up front fee.0 -
I really wouldn't mind if people actually posted, similar to.
"I went for a loan with them, but I must admit I didn't read the T&C's and just ticked the box.
I now realise that if I had read the T&C's I would have seen a broker fee is charge, that it is upfront and that they don't actually provider the loan, they just try to find a loan for us.
I realise I have been stupid in not reading the T&C's but would now like my money back what can I do."
Perfectly acceptable as not everyone reads T&C's I understand that, but by just lying saying I never signed anything to say a fee was charged etc, sorry but no why lie, just admit you've haven't read them.0
