Martin I know you are a very busy man but I hope you read this.
We have within the last few months had a remortgage fall through on us which my Wife did not want me worrying about, she then applied for a loan to see us through until another remortgage was sorted, again deciding not to tell me. The loan was applied through Wentworth Direct Finance after an application arrived through the door. A letter arrive soon after to inform my Wife that the application was accepted for the amount of £5,000 and at a rate of just under 15% over 4 years but she would have to send a postal order for £49.00 to cover fees, she sent this and then decided to let me know. Know if there is one thing I have learned from this wonderful site is not to trust this sort of thing. Nothing happened for over a week so my Wife phoned and was told that a letter is being sent with info on other finance companies to phone and we are to send them pay slips and bank details.
Now this is where i have stopped this process and gone and done some research and found out that the sort of offers we will now get will be around a rate of 40% and that the £49 fee will not be refunded.
There are a no. of review sites talking about very similar dealings with Wentworth and this company seems to be getting rich from £49 payments and probably more, I am willing to go as far as it takes with this but could do with some help so sorry for taking up your time with this long message but for the sake of my wife who I love very much I mean to try and kick some !!!. Thanks all, Scott.

Thanks for taking time out to reply, I will let you know how I get on. I found out today trawling the net that Watchdog have been interested in this company (I wish Martin would get in there first).0

I fell fault to the same trap.
I sent off my £49 in good faith to get a loan in reply to a letter I received informing I was 'pre-approved' for an unsecured loan.
I then got 2 other companies phoning me up offering me secured loans based on the details I'd given Wentworth.
Wentworth stonewalled me when I phoned up to try and get a refund.
I did however find http://www.wecomplain4u.com/loanbroker recommended by a friend who had done the same, they have a real simple form that took me less than a minute to fill out.
They kept me regularly informed and within 2 weeks I had a cheque in the post.
For all those out there that have fallen for Wentworths possibly illegal activities I strongly recommend finding a way like this to get your money back and to boycot them so it doesn't happen to anyone else!

We too have been taken in by Wentworth Finance and paid a brokers fee?? There must be something we can do. We found them though an on line site that scans all business and finds a match for you. Surely they must be accountable for not checking the sites they recommended.
Let me know who to write to, phone or just plain annoy and I can start straight away

I AM NOT LETTING THEM GET AWAY WITH IT SO CALLED THE BANK AND LISTED PAYMENT AS FRAUD, THE FRAUD DEPT GOT BACK IN TOUCH AND INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS A PAY PAL PAYMENT AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT UP WITH THEM...WHICH I HAVE DONE
CALLED PAY PAL AND TOLD THEM OF MY SITUATION THEY HAVE TOLD ME TO OPEN A PAY PAL ACCOUNT WHICH I HAVE DONE AND THEY ARE NOW GETTING MY MONEY FOR ME
OH GOD STAY AWAY FROM THEM THEY ARE THEIVES
THEY ARE A COMPANY USING PAY PAL ( I THINK THAT SAYS IT ALL )
STAY WELL AWAY0 -
I was ripped off by wentworth direct - I cannot be any clearer - DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!
I am in the process of trying to get their so called brokers fee returned - wish me luck0 -
Never use a loan broker. I learned my lesson after letting Yes Loans UK take £69.50 brokers fee from me. I finally got my money back after a few weeks. They are not interested in getting you a loan, they just want the brokers fee. They know that they have to refund the money if they don't find you a loan, but they also know if they make it extremely difficult for you, you will probably give up trying! So don't give up. Go to the Financial Ombudsman Service. They will get you your money back.0

This company is run by cowboys! AVOID!!! I stupidly paid the £60 without googling them first, when I did I felt sick...so I called the ever so helpful department who took my money except this time they werent so helpful and told me to call another number. Which I did. And have done about 10 times with no luck. You're put in the queue and an agonising wait starts. For some reason when you eventually become caller no. 7 it seems to take ages, maybe 15mins and this happens EVERY time. Then when you get to 4, the phone goes dead. And this happens EVERY TIME. The whole call takes about 40-45mins if you're lucky. My advice is to speak to your bank. Halifax have been brilliant. When I updated them tonight they said they would credit my account and get the monies directly from Wentworth themselves. I'm so angry with them and myself for falling for these charlatans !0

How the hell did I fall for that one ????
I've had my paperwork come through the post today for my Wentworth Loan, I thought the paperwork looked a bit un professional so I thought I'd check them out on line and came across all these awfull stories. I obviously haven't competed the paperwork they want me to sign but I do remember when they call me to tell me I had been "accepted" (yeh right) for a loan they asked for my debit card details and I did ask them why they needed them and they said it was just to veryfy it was my bank account. I have this morning emptied out the bank account for them debit card details and I'm now going to wait patiently for a bank statement to see if they have took anything out of my account. I too have tried all morning to call them but had no joy, how do these people get away with these things ????0 -

Ironically because people will keep on throwing money at them without conducting any kind of research first.
This post if from Feb 08 so they seem to make a good business out of simply telling people what they want to hear. The reality is that you HAVE been accepted for a loan FINDING service, not an actual loan.
There is nothing inherently wrong with charging someone to do their leg work although in these days of the Internet there is simply no need to pay someone. You can do all the running around for free in the comfort of your own armchair.
Don't call them, just look into the T&C's and WRITE to them. Post the letter recorded delivery and cancel. You may be in for a little wait (up to 6 Months) if you are too late to cancel in the notice period (14 days normally).0
