I’ve never tried the Aldi yarn but I have a friend who’s making gorgeous hats in no time on a knitting loom with a chunky yarn from poundstretcher ... the colours are gorgeous... I think it’s 2 or 3 quid

Has anyone tried knitting with Jute? I bought two small balls last week thinking I'd make soap bags from it but having checked online they seemed to be made from sisal. Could I use jute instead or does anyone have any other suggestions for the jute yarn.

Can anyone help me please. Several years ago, some one on the knitters thread put a link to a magic knot video. I have searched the thread without success and looked at loads on youtube but can't seem to find the one I was looking for. Thank you.
  • I use Aldi wool to knit squares for charity.

The DK wool (IMO) seems thin whereas the Aran wool is what I would call DK.

I've also knitted with their ombr! cake wools which are nice to knit with. Not sure about the current version in stores though as I'm yet to knit with those

I knew it would get used eventually :D I stashed wool from john arbon for two proper big shawls, the ones that can wrap around and keep you very warm. You can wear a belt or skirt and tuck them in when working in the home. I have enough of the beautiful dainty shawls and jumpers to last a long time, a shawl gap appeared and I need a project for winter, for cosy days and nights

I bought the wool for stars in the sky from rav, yay the real JA wool and the right amount for the shawl at half the price. The same colours as in the pattern. I also have the wool for gilt wood and the pattern, barley, rosebay and pomegranite

A project will keep me sane, express says that we could be snowed in this year

and I remembered :j that I have a kate davies fair isle cardigan to make, this time I am going to steek the front and then make the button bands to enclose the edges, I remember getting challenging patterns, so I don`t get finished too quickly ;)

Do you mean the one that even when the knot is made if you pull on both ends the knot will be pulled out and disappear?

If so here are the instructions.

    - Take the end of the ball of wool in your left hand and have the actual ball to the right of you. Your left hand is going to be used to wrap the yarn around one of your right fingers.

-Stick out the finger on your right hand that is next to your thumb. You are going to wrap the wool around this finger.

    - Using your left hand to place the yarn behind the finger sticking out (near the knuckle end) and then bring the yarn forward and over the finger and up behind the back of the finger (so you have created one loop).

    - Next wrap the yarn forward, over and behind (the second loop) and then over and forward again.

    - You should now have three loops (with the loop nearest to your fingernail having the end of the wool dangling down loose at the front).

    - We will name these loops 1, 2 and 3 (1 nearest the fingernail, 2 in the middle and 3 near the knuckle)

    - Take loop 2 and pass it over loop 1 and off the end of your finger (2 loops left).

    - Take loop 1 and pass it over loop 3. Get hold of loop 3 and drag the knot off your finger.

    - You should now have hold of the top of loop 3. Put this loop on your needle and then using the tail end of the yarn and the yarn end that attaches to the ball pull the knot closed to the correct size

    ______________________

If the knot is in the wrong place simply pull the two yarns ends without loop 3 being on the needle and the knot will just disappear and you can start again.

Thanks Spider in the bath, it's not that one but I'll have a go at it. I have a large bag of very small balls of yarn and couldn't face sewing in all those ends.

Ah, the one I call fisherman's knot? I've found that by googling magic knot knitting. I'll try to link later.

This is a video I watch as I find it easier to watch videos than follow instructions.
