Local Yarn Store
Because I inherited my original stash (and still have quite a bit of it) I try to avoid mine, because I really don't want more unless it's for a specific project.
Actually I've lost a hat for the Mission to Seafarers, I know I started it, but then moved on to a few other things, and now I don't know where it is. Irritating, because it's my 'church' knitting: small, and I can do a couple of rows during the sermon ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Hello to all,
How are we getting on with our projects?
I am attempting a hooded pocket scarf.
The yarn was from B&M, at 1.99 100g. It's a dark green fleck, and I really like it but I'm struggling on my loom a little with it, I think it might be because I'm using a straight loom, and I've been using round ones for quite a while. I'm also used to doing double knitting on a straight one which works across then along, but this is just along and it just feels a bit alien.
I'm about 1\3 through it, with the second side and good still to go. Goal for end of the weekend is to have the scarf part complete.
I am also working on a mock up hat pattern for a unicorn hat, completely with curly mane, I fear I've picked the wrong yarn for the hat though . Still it's only an experiment so no harm done really.Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
Well, the REALLY good news is that she is home from hospital, sans zimmer frame (which seemed like another possibility), sans crutch(es), sans stick(s). Just moving REALLY 'thoughtfully' ... and back and forth to the hospital for a while yet, but will heal quicker at home than anywhere else (as long as she doesn't overdo it!)
That is excellent news!EmberJayde wrote: »Ooh I’d love to joun in with this!
I went to a craft and chatter group tonight at my LYS. I started crocheting a scarf to match the mittens I’ve started in melange dk, the mittens in some pure wool from my stash which matches my knee length winter coat!
I’m also crocheting a “call the midwife” blanket for my pregnant sister with yarn recycled from a wool cable jumper I was given as its far too small for anyone I know, and will soon be casting on 17th c hose, just as soon as I finish a project. Hoping to start a cozy jumper ir cardigan for myself soon, undecided on yarn or pattern and still doing the occasional granny square using stash yarn to make a throw for myself.
Welcome to the Knitter's Thread. Some of us crochet, too.
Who designed the Call the Midwife blanket, please? When I looked on Ravelry, there were several different ones.
Also, please tell me more about the 17C hose.
- Pip
ETA: I found it! The Call the Midwife blanket is actually a shawl pattern. It's THIS one on Ravelry."Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.'

Can anyone help Chevalier? She posted a thread, earlier today, asking if anyone remembered the address to send hats knitted for premature babies: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/76510494#Comment_76510494
Many thanks,

Hi all i have tried searching the thread but it is mahoosive!
I am just visiting from New Zealand but used to be on these boards a lot. Back in the day there were knitters who sent baby hats to South Africa because of the stories of fish and chip babies (babies who came home from hospital wrapped in newspaper as they had nothing else).
I wonder if anyone has the address? Or knows if it is even happening now? If not I have a local address for where I can send them, I was just curious if it is still a thing
thank you in advance

I think some of the problem with knitting for fish and chip babies was that sometimes you had to pay the postage abroad yourself, this made it very difficult as I’m not talking £2 or £3 more like a nought on each figure. Recently I was very disappointed to find a pile of the type of jumpers that were been asked for, for fish and chip babies at a car boot sale, no one buying of course so such a waste of someone’s love, yarn and hard work.
I belong to a local Knit and Natter group here in the West Midlands and we make tiny cardigans and hats for the premature babies at our local maternity hospital, all very gratefully received, when I take the packages down the nurses make a great fuss, tell me how they get through the woolies so quickly.and a few days later our group gets a very nice letter of thanks, a very win, win situation.
Right now I’m making woolies with a sparkly thread for the special Christmas babies.
So I would say to anyone, get in touch with your local premature baby unit and ask if your knitting would be wanted, I’m sue it would.0 -
Hi all
not to worry I will send them to our local maternity unit that is looking out for hats.
cheers

2 questions
1. I'm knitting what I hope will be a snood for a friend but it's growing so slowly. I've done about 10 rows so far. Can anyone recommend an easy lacy / open stitch I could move on to? I've done Seashell before and will go for that by default if no other suggestions.
2. I want to knit FIL some gloves and remember Mum had a sideways pattern. Actually forget that question, I've just found a few patterns! Just need some brown sock wool now ...Signature removed for peace of mind0
