You later go back and pick up the wraps. It gives you short-row shaping without holes in each row, which is what you get if you just turn the work and keep knitting. I found a lovely pattern for Pitter Patter sockswhich I remember buying online .
They are little baby sc=ocks and a great way of using up left over yarn but I am coming unstuck with the heel.

Place remaining stitches on one needle
You will be working on one needle back and forth to shape the heel .Turn work.

R3 S1yf,s1yb,K8(k10,k12,k14) s1yb turn
R4. S1yb,S1yf,p7(p9,p11,p13) s1yf) turn
All the slip stitches are to be done purlwise but I am confused by the YF- should the yarn be on the needle therefore making a stitch?
Sorry to be a twit but this is tricky.0 -
I think that it's telling you to make sure your yarn ends up either in front or behind so you're effectively wrapping each slip stitch as you go. I guess maybe when you pick up for the gusset you pick up those wraps maybe? swatches. I made three today all using needles between 2 and 3 mm. Just washed and flat and waiting for them to dry. Sometimes you can have a pretty good guess but not for a fine long sleeved sweater from expensive thin yarn. Tip: 3 rows of garter stich top and bottom and 3 garter stitches each side and exact number of stitches and rows for gauge in between. All my life I counted rows and stitches, not any more
Am waiting for an order of baby yarn, two nieces are expecting, early days so unknown if boy or girl. I ordered some gorgeous random dyed yarn to make two sets of tops and hats for each. I love using random colours. They will be so quick to make
needles: I am enjoying using the chiaogoo metal interchangeables most of all, much more even than my karbonz long ones. They just slip through the wool and I can keep my arms low= no shoulder pain and no hitting the chair arm. I just use them like the long ones or in the round, so versatile
Have ordered more yarn for hitchikers again. Two lots from etsy with gradient and added sparkle, for two little girls. Autumn and winter equals knitting bliss0 -

I know what you mean Katzen but what is happening is that there is no opportunity of `wrapping` the stitch because for example the yarn is at the back and then you slip a stitch and then it says yarn back but it is already there so that is what is confusing me. It would be easier if I could move the yarn before the slip stitch and then it would be `wrapped`.0 -
Hmmmm, so, at each row you knit/purl one fewer stitch. Then you Slip 1 at the end with the yarn where it already was, turn the work so the yarn is now on the opposite side,, slip the same stitch again, move the yarn, slip again than move the yarn so it ends up on the correct side to K/P as appropriate. As you go along, each stitch you slip has been slipped and wrapped on the previous row, hasn't it? What's the next instruction after you've knit all this bit?Mortgage Outstanding Nov '16 £142,772.75Mortgage Additional OPs 2017 Target £4522.80/ Actual £865.00GC Feb 0/£2000

I want to make a scarf for DS, but wool makes him itchy so I thought I would use merino, however, it's quite pricey even on line, and I'm worried that as it's still wool it still might be itchy for him and be an expensive mistake. Is there a man-made yarn that feels soft? Thanks0

I just knit a cowl out of Sirdar Softspun DK. 51% Nylon, 25% Wool, 24% Acrylic and it does feel very soft against the skin. Think it's on ebay for about £2/ball and I'd think 3-4 balls would make a good scarf, depending on length. (My cowl is about 5ft in diameter and I used 3 balls.) It is shiny, but there are some masculine colours (brown, black, deep red, etc).0

Nonnadiluca If your son itches with wool he is allergic to it just like me. I never buy mixed fibres because there is likely wool in it. I cannot wear any wool not even 1%. Even a wool coat makes me itch and if it comes in contact with my skin I come out in a very unpleasant rash.
If you can find a baby yarn that comes in more than pastel shades I would try that. Patons Fairytale comes in dark colours as well as pastels but I bought some recently and the navy blue was full of knots. I would look for a better quality.0
