I've been asked to teach a knitting class and was wondering what to start off with. I always feel that people want to produce something to keep their interest so, rather than just a random piece of knitting, I thought maybe a simple garter stitch dishcloth. What do others think?

It should be fun as I knit in the continental style, wool in my left hand and making the needles do the work. I do know how to knit the English way so will have to consciously use that method!

My mum's been knitting my whole life, so she's been guiding me. I'm going to keep at it - think i'll find something nice and straightforward to test myself out on. So far I've got casting on and garter stitch sort of in hand!

Well done! Keep at it. It's like learning to drive - at first you have to think of every movement... eventually, it becomes automatic! ;)

It took me 4 attempts to pass my driving test so that analogy doesn't fill me with confidence :rotfl:

I learned to knit 60 years ago, but it took me many years, and attempts, to learn to crochet! :o

I think, with both knitting and crochet, some of us are overwhelmed by the apparent intricacy of finished projects, and we think that these crafts must be very complicated. When we realise that the process is based on a couple of simple stitches, and we practise, it becomes easy! :T

    Hi everyone,

My mum bought me some knit kits in a charity shop, not realising that they didn't have the patterns with them! I'd love to make them up as they are rather cute, but am not having much luck sourcing the patterns. Can anyone help?

They're all from "Let's Knit" magazine:

    Rusty the squirrel
    Rodney the reindeer
    Kevin the penguin
    Olive the owl
    George the bear
Scandi-style knit kit - 6 patterns for this one

    Thanks in advance!

Are you on Ravelry? If not, I suggest you join as it's fab! If you join a group like UK Classifieds (http://www.ravelry.com/groups/uk-classifieds I don't think you'll be able to see this unless you have a Ravelry account) and ask, you might find people willing to part with the magazines you need.

I've got Kevin the Penguin and Ruddolph the Reindeer patterns - they are in one little Christmas booklet given free with the mag - you can gladly have it. Think I've got Rusty the Squirrel pattern somewhere too but need to search for that one - pm me if you would like them.

Thanks both, I've PM'd you Janey. I am on Ravelry, so will ask on there now too. I didn't realise there was a group like that where I could ask!
