  • just found this thread and hope its ok to join in. I have loads of works in progress and should really get a shuffle on to finish them. I am knitting a cardigan for one of my daughters which is cable and bobbles so really have to concentrate on that, found really chunky balls of wool when shopping in Aldi one week with pattern for snood inside the ball band so also have that on the go. I also have a knitted owl that just needs sewing together but must admit hate the sewing part so tend to put that bit off ! I would really love to be able to crochet as well - anyone got any tips for how to start off ? the patterns for crochet look mind boggling to a beginner. Nice to see so many others who are getting back into knitting.
  • The Works has a nice Christmas Sweaters book for £4.99 (half-price):

Just having the charts would be useful for other projects. The xmas pudding is actually knitted separately and sewn on afterwards, the others are fair isle or intarsia techniques. Also instructions for making matching hair bobbles from the holly motifs.

They let me in, so they pretty much take anybody here! :rotfl:

With the Owl, do as much stitching on the WS so it won't matter if it's a bit messy, (as long as it OK on the RS) and, once you've secured you yarn ends, they can be lost inside the stuffing - even if you are aperfectionist and sew up in mattress st.

Dig out some old balls/leftover DK, get hold of 4mm hook and (probably after Christmas, now) find an hour or two to follow some YouTube videos on 'how to crochet'. Make a few practice swatches in basic and shell stitches and you'll be away.

Buy a s/hand copy of Patons Woolcraft: The Basic Guide to Knitting and Crochet, off Ebay - it shows you all you need to know, to become quite skilled. My bible since 1985!

If you haven't aready joined, register (free) on Ravelry - masses of advice and free patterns for knitting and crochet, as well as local Stitch n !!!!! groups.

Socks for DD1, Aran cardi for DGS-both finished. Scarf for DD2 -being blocked at the moment. I'd like to do a scarf for DH but will have to do it while he's at work.

Has anyone seen the bit in today's papers about a Norwegian Knitting Programme ?
