    Thanks for this.

I've bought sock wool from Wee County Yarns before.

Cygnet is good and I didn't realise that they do such a fantastic colour range. Brilliant for other 4ply garments too.

It's a great site, nice helpful ladies too. I met them once at a ravelry do and they were really helpful. I knitted socks in this wool last winter and they're still going strong.

I have been trying to source a stockist for Sirdar Snowdrops Chunky, Shade 356, Colour Bluebell. I need 4 balls.

It would appear that this yarn is now discontinued! I have tried Ebay and emailed various other stockists to no avail.

If anyone just happens to have some of this yearn in their stash and no longer has a need for it I would be pleased to take it off your hands!
  • can one of you lovelies give me an easy guide/pattern for knitting socks?
I have 2 balls of adriafil knitcol trends 100% merino & a set of 3.75mm DPN's I want to make a pair of socks for my Dad for Christmas

    Any help appreciated

Re socks, try practising first with something less luxurious first ;)
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

100% Merino will make very soft, luxurious socks, but they will not stand up to much wear. Unless you are prepared to darn them every few weeks and accept that their life will still be short, I would not knit socks in it.

Socks need some manmade fibre to give them a long life.

Ideally, buy some 75% wool, 25% nylon sock wool, (which is 4ply) and a set of 2.75mm DPNs. Socks (and gloves) are knitted on smaller sized needles than usual, to give a denser (firmer) fabric for longer wear. The wool shop will usually supply a free printed pattern with the yarn.

If your merino is DK, you could use 3.75mm needles to knit a wonderful hat. If you use DK for socks, you will probably need more than 100g. Also, bear in mind that thicker socks may make the usual sized shoes quite tight and uncomfortable.

Here are some FREE easy sock patterns from Ravelry:

    Men's Rib DK socks

    Men's Aran weight rib socks

    Men's Rib 4ply socks
