Have you looked on Ebay? Save a search for the copies you want and then you`ll get an email if there are any. I think there are other sites that you can try such as Etsy or Ebid or even Freecycle? HTH0 -

Socks aren't really that difficult, especially if you can get your head around the magic loop with circular needles.
Top down, you knit a tube, extend part of that tube for the heel, then pick up stiches either side of the heel flap and then decrease them again to for the gusset, then continue with the tube to make the foot ending with shaping the toe by casting off on each row. I prefer the Kitchener (sp) stich for casting off.
Try it, what's the worst that can happen? Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
OK, I'm getting into socks....... Technically stretching my brain just enough, never do one thing for so long it gets boring, and such lovely colours of yarn out there (shame OH will only wear black........) I like long socks, but having short fat legs, rarely found any that fitted properly, but now I also have a pattern for socks for Diabetics, and I'm in heaven! The feel of a sock that's knitted to fit your foot is like nothing else.
BUT - what's the cheapest sock yarn you can get? and is it any good? Really not sure I want to spend £8 plus on a pair of socks.....
Hi
I've just bought this. Works out at £5.00 a ball.

It took me three attempts, over a number of years, to learn to crochet!
Crochet has one basic stitch, but, because crochet work is so pretty, lacy and appears so intricate, I couldn't get my head round the simplicity of doing it!
Give it a go using YouTube.
A fantastic little book, which is my knitting and crochet Bible, is Patons Woolcraft: The Basic Guide to Knitting and Crochet. My copy is the bi-centenary edition, bought new, in 1985! It is easily available, (any edition,) on Ebay and will cost about £5, including postage. It covers all the basics of knitting and crochet techniques, several fancy stitches, plus a good selection of useful patterns for babies, children, adults and home, including family socks. An absolute gem! I've bought loads of these for knitting and crocheting friends.Needs, NOT wants!

Hello,
I have just found this useful link for foot measurements for women. Scroll down the web page a little for the UK sizes.
I am currently knitting socks as Christmas presents so I can use the info. below to work out how long to knit the heel to toe part for different shoe sizes.
http://help-en-gb.nike.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/32315/p/3897
Don't forget if you use the chart to take off 6 cms from the length for the toe part of the sock. The start of the toe shaping to the finishing off will measure about 6 cms.

I knit all of my own socks. Due to a problem with my left leg I cannot wear shop bought ones. The cheapest sock wool I have found is Patons 4ply cotton. I use this to make summer and autum weight socks. However, if you have very sensitive feet you may not like the feel of wearing them. Also, cotton shows up every stitch error so you need to be a neat knitter for this to work. They do wash and wear well too.
£8 does seem expensive for sock wool, but if you get cold feet then it is worth every penny.0
