Id say if they don't mention non smoking home, question the seller or avoid

    Ditto.
It is quite hard to remove an ingrained smoke smell too.

  • OS hope you get on alright re having the wisdom teeth removed.

agree re smokers wool, i was given some once and it stank, luckily i put it outside in a net bag for a good blow for a few days (it was summer) and it got rid of the smell.

  • Last night I started some mitts with a small Fair Isle pattern.
Main colour gray with bits of blue and lilac.
The pattern has the title "Winter warmers". It is from a knitaholics calender 2012. I think it came with a knitting mag.

    Hi
I'm just looking to get back into knitting (well start really as a couple of scarves in my childhood probably don't really count!), and would like some help!

I've decided my first project will be a snood for myself. I've found a pattern I like the look of on Raverly

    http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gap-tastic-cowl

I'm planning on trying this out on circular needles (another new one for me). I need some advice on type of wool to buy. I'd like to go for a nice bulky / 12 ply wool or possibly 10ply at a push but I don't want anything that will be itchy!

I'm looking for wool on ebay but I have no idea what to look for!

I like to look of this

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230731642231?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

    I'd like either a cream/oatmeal or grey.

My question really is whether all 100% wool yarn is itchy? If so, what should I go for for a softer finish? If not, how can I tell?

thank you in advance your advice x

Afraid I can't really help with knowing what s wool will be like but I can suggest you pop in to your local shop and have a good feel of that wool,or other simialr wools, then use that to make your decision. I go to my favourite shop where my mum lives, touch everything then order stuff I liked the feel of when I get around to stuff I want it for! They are a good shop so they don't mind at all

    Hi,

Glad you like my little bunny. It's a free pattern on Ravelry

The wool that you are looking at on ebay can also be used for rug making, so my feeling would be that this may be quite a coarse wool and so would be likely to be very tickly.

Wool varies a lot in how soft/itchy it is. An expensive pure merino is likely to be less tickly than a cheaper wool. It also seems to vary a lot as to how 'itchy' different people find the same wool.

Personally, I know that I find most pure wool too tickly for a scarf - but then that's just me ;)

If you don't have a local yarn store, where you can go and 'squeeze' a few balls, then how about something like this, it's an acrylic wool mix, so likely to feel softer

I'm still feeling rough with this awful cold and as the weather is pants, I've just made this - a finger puppet for a friend's horse mad granddaughter.
