Evening! Popped into my local hobbycrafting superstore today and noticed they have a 3 for 2 on wool. Had a look round and a stroke of some Rowan cocoon whilst whispering to myself *remember your yarn diet, remember your yarn diet* hope some of you can take advantage though...Mortgage Outstanding Nov '16 £142,772.75Mortgage Additional OPs 2017 Target £4522.80/ Actual £865.00GC Feb 0/£2000

Hi folks, I am really glad to have come across this thread. I am brand new to knitting - at the moment I can cast on a do the knit stitch and that's it. I still have to learn how to cast off. I am using you tube videos to teach myself but am struggling with the purl stitch - I am not sure what I am doing wrong!
Going to work on a scarf based on the knit stitch only and go from there. Although I keep looking at all the lovely things you have made and wish myself further forward.0 -
allie23, i too struggled with the purl stitch, and watched loads of you tube videos until i found this one yesterday, it's only short but it helped so i'm happy now.......my only problem now is my stitch count keeps increasing every few rows ggrrrrr.
Hope this helps

Good luck Orkney - sure you'll be fine.
I found that the worst bit was living with stitches in my gum, but not sure if you'll need any?

I've normally had no problems buying wool from ebay shops or private sales but the last two times they've come from smokers homes.
I wish they would say they smoke or the wool comes from a smokers home. I could then make a better choice as to whether buy knowing it need to be either washed first or wound into hanks and aired. Fine for small amounts of wool but not a jumpers worth.
I suppose they are just unaware the wool has picked up the smoke smell.

Id say if they don't mention non smoking home, question the seller or avoidPlease forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -

Red boxer, I suspect you are creating an extra loop over your needle when you bring the yarn to the front to purl a stitch and then knitting this on the next row. if you realise you have made a loop before you knit it you can just slide it off the needle when you come to it. If you do knit it though there is no solution except to unpick. Hope that helpsMortgage Outstanding Nov '16 £142,772.75Mortgage Additional OPs 2017 Target £4522.80/ Actual £865.00GC Feb 0/£2000
