Hello all, i just had a quick question, i want to knit some ear warmer head bands, but not sure which type of wool to use as i dont want it to loose its shape too much, and ideas?? Thank you in advance

Has to be real wool from a sheep, not plastic-masquerading-as-wool or cotton or rayon, etc. Pure wool is elastic and springs back into shape no matter how many times it is tugged. Anything less than about 75% pure wool won't retain its shape. I'd recommend something soft and squooshy. Rowan's Pure Wool DK might fit the bill - it's £4.75/ball but you'll probably only need one ball.

Funny you should ask about elasticity. At the weekend, my MIL wore the jumper I knitted for her birthday. She's very impressed that the cuffs constantly spring back into shape. The jumper is in Sublime Organic Merino DK (sadly, discontinued or I'd have recommended it - very squooshy).

Regia Design Line sock lands in your shopping basket at a rather ridiculous £1.15 per ball at The Black Sheep.

    I love the Black Sheep!

(But I wish I hadn't seen your post. Busy trying to decrease the sock yarn mountain stashed in the wool cave. I must not add to it.......)

Looking at most of my head-bands, I have to say I must agree, have used 100% wool or blends. Of course, if someone is allergic to wool then something else would need to be used :).

    Any of these any use?
(you'll need to join ravelry if you haven't already).
I searched for wristwarmers and filtered for knitted, free, and worked flat (two needles).

Have been merrily knitting rounds away on my jumper before realising I was supposed to be doing it in rib and not plain knitting. D'oh.
Bribed my mum to fix it as I was knitting a scarf last night and she accidentally pulled all the stitches of the needle, couldn't rescue it so have to start from scratch.

    Hi
I was wondering if anyone could suggest some bits for my dd. She has put a knitting or sewing kit on her list for FC. Now I cannot sew but am a moderate knitter, she is 8 and I looked at kits but they are very expensive. i have bought a book and would like some wool and needles, what would be a good size for a her (easy to hold and use) I tend to use circulars for everything. Also some nice wool, I guess chunkier would be better? I thought I'd get her a little case for everything to go in. I hope to teach her the basics but am quite basic myself!
    Thanks so much x

  • Do you have any local wool shops near you? Both of mine do childrens knittings kits that they've put together themselves so aren't as expensive as other made up ones are. How about some short straight needles in a larger size and some chunky wool? I think Pony do needles specifically for kids, I've used Jarol Chunky before which is nice and easy to knit but not too expensive for a first project? Or maybe download some easy patterns (toys maybe? I don't know what 8 year old girls like nowadays!) and see what wool it suggests.

    Hi everyone :)

I really would like to learn to knit, does anyone know of any good online guides? I have never knitted before.

Also, does anyone have any ideas of what I could "attempt" to knit as a beginner?

Apart from knitting needles and wool (which I haven't bought yet) what else do I need?

    Thank you

Thanks Mikazaru, have found the pony needles, so will get some of those, unfortunately no knitting shops near me but will look for the wool online.

    Thanks x
