Very nice slippers :-)
xA work in progress0 -
DS school hat finished, designed by me and knitted in 100% wool guernsey 4ply. Just need to sew a name label in, as don't want it disappearing into the ether! He wants socks with the left-over yarn.
Mardatha I'd look on ravelry for some ideas. I have never used 2ply or cobweb yarn (cobweb>spider>aaaaaaarrrrggh ) x
lucy_lemonKnitting for dummies (from the ....for dummies range) meant to be good. Also try you tube for some videos on basic stitches. My tip is to start with double knit (DK) yarn and around 4mm needles, perhaps a simple scarf pattern or maybe even a facecloth or two just to practice stitches.
boredjellybeanHave you found your feet yet or are you needing some more ideas?
Hope everyone is well.

Mar I did this last christmas, but "made up" a pattern from a wide scarf i had seen. Really easy - knit 4 rows garter stitch, then the next row you knit each stitch with 3 wraps around the needle between each stitch. Knit the next row and let all the wraps drop off into one big stitch - then repeat all. makes a lacy scarf/stole type garment, light and airy but pretty. Really quick as well!! made a few whilst travelling
I'm crocheting with cobweb at the mo - not really using a pattern but its like a spider web but only 3/4 around (if you know what I mean?) - I don't crochet properly, but its coming out really pretty - an extra layer for when i'm sitting in winter0 -
Mar it looked like this

appears that loads of folks have written it up!!!0 -
Ok ta for that. I have got some patts saved from Ravelry but nothing that jumps out at me. Cobweb is beautiful on big needles and very quick, I just wanted to knit this when I was sick of doing socks0

'sick of doing socks'? what?:eek::eek::eek::eek:......those words should not form a sentence lol. Seriously good luck finding the pattern you like. The other thing that scares me about cobweb is that it sort of sticks together when being knitted and would be hard to un-pick any mistakes?Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

It sounds crazy but I want to be able to knit myself a hippogriff (from Harry Potter!) by Christmas. Think it's do-able?
Look for Patons Woolcraft: The Basic Guide to Knitting and Crochet, on Ebay (under a fiver, including p&p.)
This is an ancient paperback booklet with over 60 everyday patterns, plus loads of really useful 'how to', a selection of stitches, knitting with 4 pins, Tunisian crochet, etc.
The booklet is still being published, and is more or less the same as it's always been. My own copy is 1985 - the centenary edition - but I have bought various older and newer ones for friends and young knitters.
Mine sits by my knitting chair, and if I could only have one knitting guide, this is it. :dance:Needs, NOT wants!
No food waste since November 2010. :j

Hello all,
Just a quick question if any of you can help me...
I'm looking for an Arran sweater to order and am wondering if anyone would be able to point me in the right direction?
Rather than trawl the internet I thought I'd ask here first.
I've had a quick look at Etsy but it all seems to being coming from the US.
My Nana was a great knitter and produced all sorts of things for us when we were kids. I am lucky enough to still have one of her Arran hats. Would really love a jumper.
Ive plans to tour the Highlands and Islands and north of Scotland but it will not be for a couple of years, so don't want to wait til then!
Many thanks,
