The more who knit for preemies the better. I am sending mine to Loving Hands, but waiting until I have a pile. Hoped to knit tonight but arm a bit sore (trapped nerve) so laying off, eating crisps and watching tv!

Hi everyone
I dont usually post on this thread, but I do a bit of simple knitting and could do with a bit of advice. I have finished knitting loads of squares for a blanket that my daughter wants and all I want to know is, after I have sewn them altogether whats the best way of finishing it off ie a border?? I crochet as well and was wondering if a crochet border would look silly, the squares are all in garter stitch and any suggestions would be a great help
By the way, the shawl is beautiful, socks great ( I can knit socks - just!!) and the baby clothes are soooo cute

I think a crochet border would look fine and finish it off.

Have to agree with Orkney. At the group I go to we all knit garter stitch squares and one lady sews them all together and another crochets an edging. They look really good and are sent to charity.
I would go for a crocheted edging.
Look forward to a pic?Jack of all trades ... Master of none

Apparently, a lady in Walthamstow has knitted the OlympicsYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0

i hope she didn't knit any Olympic logo or rings or she'll probably have some jobsworth Olympic official come round and get her arrested.;)
it does look very impressive and must have taken loads of time. i wonder what shes planning to do with it?

firstly can i please have a copy of the pattern for these socks they are brilliant and a great way to use up those odds and ends left over, but never enough left over to make something worth while and such a waste of money. this in fact brings me to a question. i very, very rarely buy the wool recommended for the said pattern as it always makes the item so expensive. today i became very tempted when i saw a wonderful pattern for a dressing gown that was in the art of knitting that needed 19 balls of wool, i shopped around and the cheapest i could find it was in a sale reduced from approx £5.50 a ball to £3.50 a ball and that didnt include postage. so i wondered do you all also use imitations due to cost or buy the original and what is the most a project has cost to makeit will be my secret honest

I made the pattern up as I went along and have only typed up a rough version at the moment, sorry. You might well find something on ravelry though.
I rarely use the specified yarn, though do check it knits to a similar gauge and is suitable for the final use of the thing I am knitting.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.
