I'm already subscribed to the crafting thread but this one looks like it's right up my street too seeing as mainly knit :-D
I haven't read through the whole thread as there's too many posts, but I might have a read through some later :-D.
At the minute I'm working on a crochet project to take a break from knitting but here's a photo of the knitting project I just finished:
The pictures a bit small but you can just about make out all the detail on it. It's the first throw from "The Art Of Knitting" magazine. I cancelled after getting the bits for the first throw, then regretted it so I resubscribed and am now working on the 1st throw again! I gave the first one to my mum as a gift and gave the magazines to my mother-in-law! (Waste of money I know but I want the 2nd throw!).
I also recently finished this:
It was my first attempt at a toy, and the face is not very good but I think with practice I may get better :-DTotal Weight Loss Progress = -17lbs

I'm thinking of knitting after many years of not doing so. I've had a look at the Ravelry website and wondered if someone would explain the following to me in relation to knitting socks please.
Fingering / 4 ply (14 wpi)
Gauge 32 stitches = 4 inches in 3x1 Rib, Unstretched
Needle size US 1½ - 2.5 mm
37Yardage0 yards (338 m)
It means you need to knit with 4 ply yarn (ideally a special 4 ply sock yarn, which is washable but still has a high percentage of wool in it, eg Regia, Opal, Trekking XXL etc)- Americans call it 'fingering' yarn.
Your gauge needs to be approx 32 stitches per 4 inches, knitted in rib.
You need to use a 2.5mm needle, which is an old UK 13- double pointed needles (4 or 5) or circular needles (1 or 2).
You will need at least 338 metres of yarn- the ball band will tell you how many metres per ball.

Many posts ago, people on this thread pointed me in the direction of some videos about how to sew in sleeves for my first ever cardigan. I'm pleased to report that the sleeves are now sewn in but I am a bit confused about 'blocking'. Everywhere seems to say my item will look better if I block it but there seem to be so many different methods and I'm not sure if I need special equipment or can make do with things I have already got. The yarn I am using is Debbie Bliss Cashmerino and is marked as 55% merino wool, 33% microfibre and 12% cashmere and can be machine washed at 30deg.0

He has requested red and green stripes but am worried he will look like an elf!'You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose' - Dr Suess

I've only blocked small pieces of knitting before but I've never used any special equipment, there are some good articles here:

Or there are some videos on youtube with a step by step guide. The second has lots of questions and tips on it.0 -

Good job! Not done any housework since I bought the wool!!
I need another ball of the chunky wool as my scarf isn't quite long enough ..... plus I am thinking it would look nice with a fringe.
Might have to get started on the Debbie Bliss Party Angel wool but I have never used anything like it.
Going to make it into a scarf - would basic knit work? Not sure how many stitches to cast on. My big scarf is 20!0
