I have just returned from a very pleasant trip to the Knitting & Stitching Show in Harrogate.
Whilst there I purchased a tape measure from Lantern Moon - Part Number 74609 .
I have just opened the packaging to find that the tape measure does not retract properly.
Returning it to the stand at the Show is not a possibility, but I am so disappointed that an item costing so much is faulty.
The plastic pig tape measure I bought for less than half the price works perfectly!
Anyone else had a problem with LM stuff?
I have emailed them via their website.

BTW - may have bought some gorgeous yarn and a daylight lamp as well as a few odds and ends!:o

Dear All, hoping someone can help me. I have made my first garment for the OH's christmas gift, which is a man's tank top. It came out beautifully (as knitting usually makes me swear, I have to say that this item didn't), and then I decided it should have a quick rinse. I washed in cold water in a bowl in the sink, transferred onto a towel, put to shape and let it dry flat, all as per . . .but the ribbing seems to have stretched. I am so upset with myself, and despite looking all over the 'net, don't seem to be able to find any info on how I might fix this. My last resort will be to cut the rib off and reknit it, but I don't really want to. Any info gratefully received, thanks.
PS yarn is a chunky one, 80% wool, 20% alpaca

Did you pull the rib section to the right size and pin it out? It's best not to pin any rib section otherwise they lose the stretchiness. Try wetting the item again and just leave the rib to dry naturally while pinning the rest out.

    There's a good tutorial here:

    http://www.knittingdaily.com/blogs/daily/archive/2008/11/26/blocking-basics-part-2.aspx

Special note about blocking ribbing: See the photo of the waist ribbing on my Bonsai? Notice that it is NOT stretched out at all. I actually compressed it a bit, patting it evenly into place, and leaving most of it unpinned. (In contrast, I pinned the heck out of the lace skirt.) This will allow the ribbing to maintain its elasticity and shape.

Finally finished these. I used an adapted chart from a book (adapted it to a smaller stitch repeat and for in the round) and pretty much made the sock up as I went along the first sock, taking notes so to repeat second. Only used about 40g yarn, 100% lambswool, so warm, but better watch I don't felt them when washing! Was thinking of frogging them when half-way through sock 1, but put aside (for longer than planned) and came back to them- sock 2 flew off the needles!

    Gorgeous socks as usual Orkney.

I am madly trying to finish Grandson jumper number 3 so that I can take a pic of all 3 together before I take one to Hampshire on Thursday.

Hope you get it done....I always find annoying things come up when I just need to knit!

    They are lovely!

Please write up the pattern and put it on Ravelry, either for free or (more OS) list it for sale. I'm sure you'd get takers.

Thanks, I will write it up at some point, once I figure out how to link it properly.

    Hi, again, all.

Just got some chunky yarn to make myself a sweater ( no point in knitting for baby in Florida).

Feel a bit nervous though, as on to second 100g ball already just after starting raglan shaping on back.

Please console me, thatt it'll work out.
    Pattern said 10 50g balls Robin. I have 5 100g James Brett.

What is the yardage (meterage ?) on the balls ? You need to make sure you have a same amount of yardage in your 500g James Brett as the 500g recommended Robin, it should have it on the ball band.
