    Morning,

There really are some lovely things on this thread! I would love to be able to knit socks, I did knit some wonky slippers this week though! I really don't think that practice will make perfect in my case!

    Morning,

Sometimes it takes a while, then things just 'click'. I was fed up with socks and doing hats and stuff, but now back in the swing with socks and wearing my works of art, even if they are not perfect (and they aren't)!

  • I am knitting the other one of this pair, can't wait to wear them!

My second time doing socks, using silver's sock class.

I have aran wool that I want to make some men's size 10/11 socks with next - anyone recommend an easy pattern to try next?

Gorgeous socks, such lovely colours. Always avoided knitting with 4 needles!

As I was away and without a computer I wanted to make that little kiwi bird that Orkney showed. Grabbed some needles as I loaded up and thought that would be great little project to do while killing time. Anyways started to cast on and couldn't understand why it went haywire. Then realised that I needed open ended needles....what a knitwit :o So instead of abandening all hope I decided to do it with 2 needles which worked and didnt work! I've lost my camera lead at the mo but will post a piccy of Trevor. Was going to call him Trevor the Tr*avel lodge bug as that was where he was born, but thought I might get sued :D:D

He does look like a bug that you would see under a microscope!

Do you use the Ravelry site? It is free to join. They have lots of free patterns. Bit difficult to imagine exactly what someone else wants, but I did a search for short sleeved cardies, worked flat, size 6-7mm needles and came up with http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/search#view=captioned_thumbs&query=Short%20sleeve%20cardigan&fit=adult%2Bfemale&pa=worked-flat&sort=best&needles=6.0mm%7C7.0mm

Some have just a couple of buttons, which you could leave off, or use a loop and button or a shawl pin to fasten. Good luck.

thanks nanny janny, perfect as always.... just going to do a tension square and off we go hopefully not looking forward to knitting it, using normal eyelash yarn is bad enough but eyelash is even worse!!

    Hi there,
I would really appreciate a bit of help with a pattern. I am just beginning to knit and so far have knitted one ‘Teddies for Tradegies’ teddy! Maybe overly ambitious but I bought the Knits and Pieces ‘Jim and William’ pattern to try and knit a ‘William’ for my niece for Christmas…. possibly overambitious as I don’t even know how to do the first row!!
    Please can you help???

    It reads:
With 3mm needles, cast on 8 sts and inc knitwise in each st. (16sts).
Next and every following alt row - P (I get this bit!)
    Next K Row - Inc 1, (K2, inc in next 2 sts), to last 3 sts, K2, inc 1.

Please can anybody explain what this means?

    Thanks,
    Kat

    Yep,here goes.

Increase in the first stitch, knit 2,increase in the following 2stitches,repeat
what is in the brackets til you get to the last 3stitches.I think you repeat what is in the brackets 3times if my maths is right.

Gosh that reads a bit complicated, good luck.

Just a quick q if anyone can help. do you think it's possible to knit a "collar" to attach to a coat like http://www.marksandspencer.com/Una-Blend-Cable-Collar-Jacket/dp/B0051CB4T8?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_20&nodeId=527352031&sr=1-20&qid=1318702892 ? Is there a way to give it a slight cone like curve when knitting or would just knitting the right shaped chunk be good enough?

I'm practising cable stitch atm and keep having major brain farts! Every time I have to start a new row with purl I forget how to and have to look it up. I'm practising with a small ball of yucky coloured wool, knitting chunks of cable knit, unwravvelling and repeating!

The first row means you knit twice into each stitch
    second row just purl it
Third row knit twice into the first stitch then knit 2 normally, then knit 2 knitting twice into each stitch - then knit 2 normally then knit 2 knitting twice in each stich - until you get to the last 3 stitches
    knit 2 normally
    knit twice into last stitch.

In a knitting pattern they usually give the first few stitches then -
The instructions in brackets are the sequence you need to repeat all along the row until you come to the last stitch(es).

It will become clear as you complete the rows and you will understand WHY the pattern is written that way.

Hi. It might be worth mentioning, if you are new to all this, that when you increase you knit into the front and back of the same stitch before sliding it off the lefthand needle.
